Job Summary
Columbus State University (CSU) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director of Residence Life - Operations. The Assistant Director of Residence Life - Operations reports to the Director of Residence Life and provides leadership to daily operations, which include Main Campus, RiverPark, and Maryland Circle housing areas. This position provides vision, leadership, and daily administration for a dynamic residence life system comprised of approximately 1500 undergraduate and graduate students living in on-campus apartments. This is a full-time position that oversees the educational, social, physical, and safe well-being of professional staff, paraprofessional staff, and residential students.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Supervision and Training
  • Assists the Director of Residence Life in supervision and training of all Residence Life Professional and Paraprofessional staff members
  • Directly supervise Systems Administrator, Outreach Coordinator, 1 Residence Life Coordinator and 2 Graduate Student Assistants for Student Conduct. Indirectly supervise other Graduate Student Staff members.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of professional, graduate, and paraprofessional staff members.
Administration
  • Serves in leadership capacities for departmental efforts providing overall administration of multiple housing areas.
  • Attends weekly professional staff meetings.
  • Participates in a professional and graduate staff duty rotation overseeing 1500 students. Serves and the university first line of response after the resident assistant and provides feedback/ suggestions to resident assistants when needed.
  • Familiarity with and is prepared to implement and train staff in all emergency procedures.
  • Interpret Residence Life rules and regulations, provide support to the Residence Life Staff with enforcement of rules and regulations, and make recommendations for changes and modifications to the rules and regulations.
  • Oversees student conduct procedures, in coordination with the Dean of Students Office, for Residence Life disciplinary cases
  • Prepares various schedules, reports, assessment outcomes and work orders as needed.
  • Receives and deals with request, complaints or concerns from students, parents, and general public.
  • Creates strong partnerships within the Student Affairs Division and with other departments on campus, including faculty, University Police, dining services, academic support, plant operations, and other administrative offices.
  • Ensure all housing areas are well maintained and clean; direct RLC's in management of maintenance and housekeeping issues in respective areas
  • Coordinate cleaning services for beginning and end of term for all housing areas
  • Assist in coordinating early arrivals/late departures with campus partners
  • Assist the Director of Residence Life in ongoing assessment of departmental processes and procedures and preparation of annual reports
  • Manage all summer facility use with respect to summer group housing (summer camps)
  • Responsible for coordinating departmental health and safety measures including ongoing analysis of fire safety policies, fire safety training, and equipment inspections
  • Advises, counsels, and interacts with individuals and student groups regarding institutional policies, services, and programs available.
  • Serves on committees that are related to the total operation of the university as assigned by the Director of Residence Life, the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, and the Dean of Students.
Community Development
  • Provides basic counseling and advising to residential students as needed, making appropriate referrals to Counseling Services when needed.
  • Regularly attend residence life programs and activities
  • Develops a working relationship with Faculty / Staff to assist with the developmental progression of the community.
  • Work closely with University Police and security to maintain a safe and secure environment for residents.
  • Maintains relationships and provide support to the Faculty in Residence within housing area oversight.
  • Assists with updates to the policy manual and other printed materials as needed.
  • Makes referrals to university agencies when appropriate
Other responsibilities
  • The Assistant Director for Operations is responsible for other duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life.
  • The Assistant Director for Operations will serve as the leader of the department in the absence of the Director for Residence Life.
Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field and 3 to 5 years of professional experience in Residence Life; and/or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. The successful candidate must have considerable knowledge of university housing policies and procedures and familiarity with the university housing setting; a proven ability to provide instruction and guidance regarding Residence Life facility development and maintenance; excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and organizational skills; working knowledge of MS office products and the internet; a proven ability to develop productive relationships with diverse community representatives, area employers, nonprofit organizations and professional organizations; and the ability to demonstrate management responsibilities, which include providing direct supervision.
Proposed Salary
The annualized salary range for this position is $48,723 - $54,814 and includes full benefits.
