Columbus School for Girls (CSG) is an independent day school in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 1898, serving diverse students in grades pre-k through grade 12. Columbus School for Girls seeks to hire an energetic and creative full-time Middle School Humanities Teacher to begin in the 2024-2025 academic year. This position also includes the potential for leadership in roles such as grade-level dean, club advisor, affinity/alliance group leader, etc. CSG offers a competitive salary, benefits, professional opportunities, and welcomes candidates who add to the diversity of the school community.

Major Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Teach classes for grades 6-8
    • The teaching load is mostly English classes with some history 
    • The English Language Arts instruction includes
      • Reading for fluency, comprehension, analysis, and appreciation
      • Students develop distinct voices in a variety of writing tasks and rhetorical modes, including research, narration, exposition, argumentation, and creative writing.
      • Critical thinking, presentation skills, vocabulary, and grammar study.
    • The history curriculum in middle school includes both ancient civilizations and United States history.
  • Lead an advisory group. 
  • Participate actively in the life of the school, including leading clubs and/or activities, chaperoning school trips (including a potential overnight trip), and possibly coaching. 
  • Potential leadership responsibilities (Form Level Dean, Club Advisor, Affinity/Alliance Groups, etc.)

Experience:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Ability to teach a scope of different grade levels and academic disciplines, History specifically
  • Strong candidates will have at least three years of experience teaching.
