Columbus City Schools is Hiring a Computer Technology Teacher (6th-8th Grade) Near Columbus, OH

Candidate will be teaching introductory computer science courses which will expose students to computer science as a means of computationally analyzing and developing solutions to authentic problems through mobile app development, and will convey the positive impact of the application of computer science to other disciplines and to society. Additional responsibilities are to educate and equip students to use the computer as a productivity tool as well as a tool for learning, research, networking, collaboration, telecommunications, and problem solving. Students will be familiar with a computer keyboard and have basic keyboarding skills. Students will leave Middle School with skills necessary for the required work in high school and ultimately the real world.
Licensure requirements: Career-Technical Administrative Office Technologies or Business Administration and Management OR Alternative Resident Educator for Career-Technical Workforce Development
A district may hire an individual who has not completed a teacher preparation program to teach in career-technical education. The individual will obtain the Alternative Resident Educator (Alt-RE) license if he or she:
  • Holds a baccalaureate or master’s degree in the content (i.e., subject matter, career field or career-technical category)
  • Evidences two years of full-time work experience or the equivalent in the career field;
  • Completes an approved pre-service career-technical education program
OR
  • Evidences five years of full-time work experience or the equivalent in the career field;
  • Completes an approved pre-service career-technical education program
After completion of the 24-semester hour approved teacher preparation program and the Resident Educator program, a five-year provisional license is issued for Administrative Office Technologies or Business Administration and Management.
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the delivery, planning and all aspects of the school’s computer science program. The program includes class instruction and the equally important, hands-on lab projects
  • Assist in the development of STEM curriculum aligned with career pathways that ensure integration of academic and career technical education with 21st century skills
  • Take part in professional development activities designed to improve the teacher’s knowledge for the purpose of improving teaching and learning. Additional training required through Project Lead the Way during the summer, online during the school year and/or a combination of these 2 options.
  • Explore and research best practices associated with the positive growth of the STEM/Technology program
  • Monitor student overall academic progress regularly, not limited to interim/quarter grades
  • Coordinate and help organize any special STEM events/activities
  • Maintain current knowledge of district, state and federal laws, regulations and policies affecting STEM/Technology education
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the current theories, techniques and methodologies of STEM
  • Knowledge in the development of Middle School STEM curriculum design
  • Ability to analyze data from multiple sources to design, implement, monitor and evaluate successful STEM initiatives and curriculum
  • Ability to function as a member of a team and to work as a team member, harmoniously and cooperatively with professional staff and the school community
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively and respectfully with staff, parents, students and community members regardless of race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnic/national origin, religion, marital status, age, socio-economic status or disability
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned
Technology Requirements:
  • Word processing/Spreadsheet/Electronic presentation/Web navigation skills
  • E-mail management skills
  • Computer network knowledge applicable to the position
  • Knowledge of computer-related storage devices
  • Knowledge of instructional technology integration
  • Knowledge of computer security expectations
  • Knowledge of microbit programming and MIT App Inventor
Special Factors:
  • Must be willing to participate in summer trainings held at a university campus. Trainings could last up to 1 full week per training.
  • Must be willing to participate in online training which would be held in the evening one night a week for up to 10 weeks per training during the 18-19 school year.
