The Mental Health Program Coordinator for Columbia Pediatric Orthopedics and the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy (CP) Center in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who wants to make a difference and create a new mental health program. The Mental Health Program Coordinator will direct and/or coordinate the administrative aspects of building a Mental Health Program for Pediatric Orthopedics under the direction of senior leadership and with wide latitude for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment.
The Mental Health Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Pediatric Orthopedics and the Department of Orthopedic Surgery's Associate Director of Operations.
ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent will coordinate efforts in patient care, education, and research while working alongside a team consisting of a care coordinator, mental health specialist, psychiatrist, communications coordinator, research coordinator, and Physician Assistant.
  • Assists the Director in day-to-day operations and acts as a liaison for patients, prospective patients, and providers.
  • Maintain relationships with various departments within Columbia University Medical Center and strengthen relationships with multiple advocacy groups and community partners outside of the Medical Center.
  • Schedules and coordinates healthcare services. The coordinator also provides administrative support to the mental health specialists and cultivates a network of referring providers for pediatric, transitional, and adult CP patients.
  • Coordinate with the marketing director to develop correspondence, program announcements, and an internet and social media presence for the Mental Health program.
  • Coordinate educational activities for the Pediatric Orthopedics/CP Center, such as continuing medical education seminars, special events, conferences, workshops, video and online content, and competitions with a mental health focus.
  • Oversee the Mental Health program budgets for clinical activities, education, and research under the supervision of the Director of Pediatric Orthopedics and the Department Associate Director of Operations.
  • Assist in preparing weekly and monthly dashboard reporting and coordinate grants and expense account management, billing, and reimbursement associated with Mental Health program activities.
  • Works closely with the Director of Pediatric Orthopedics, the Director of Development, and the Columbia University Development Office in fundraising and communication with potential and existing donors regarding mental health program development.
  • Assist with data collection for mental health program assessment, conduct background research, and compile various reports, including reports to funders.
  • Partner with research coordinator on the schedule of research meetings, grant applications, and research oversight.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in public health, public administration, business administration, social work, psychology, or rehabilitation counseling is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills are preferred in the Windows environment.
  • Experience in project management preferred.
  • Bilingual English/ Spanish is a plus.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and opportunities and the ability to troubleshoot and implement solutions and improvements successfully.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter with project development experience.
  • Must be able to work independently and take initiative and responsibility for complex tasks.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance are required.
