Columbia Machine Works, Inc. is Hiring a Fabricator Near Columbia, TN

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED, Trade School or equivalent experience preferred, Valid TN Driver’s License REQUIRED

OVERVIEW: Performs skilled welding work including cutting, and brazing metal pieces and products. Responsible for various types of weld preparation and metals to manufacture to customer drawings, specifications or other forms of instruction. Skilled in SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW welding processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform fabrication processes SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW
  • Ability to read and understand complex blueprints, and apply knowledge obtained.
  • Welding of components 3G (vertical)
  • Layout weldments from blueprints, including weld bevels, pipe nozzles, and holes
  • Use hand tools such as squares, calipers, trammels, builder’s transit etc.
  • Read, comprehend, and select proper WPS for the materials being welded together
  • Selects equipment, material and welding process needed to complete a task
  • Develops jigs, templates and other work aid to improve efficiency and job cost.
  • Repairs & fabricates various items using cutting, burning, & welding techniques.
  • Monitors the welding, burning & fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion or shrinkage.
  • Prepares, assembles and tack welds parts and surfaces to be welded using proper WPS.
  • Ensures weld quality meets applicable codes and standards.
  • Use weld gauges to insure weld sizes requirements are met per drawing.
  • Self-perform quality checks and ensure quality standards and tolerances are being met.
  • Use a variety of heavy industrial tools and equipment to saw parts, shear parts, drill parts and grind parts as required.
  • Set-up and operate an (OFC) Oxyfuel Gas Cutting Torch, (PAC) Plasma Arc Cutting machine, and (CAC-A) Air Carbon Arc gouging equipment.
  • Works overtime as needed

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in various fabrication operations (i.e. bending, pressing, shearing, forming).
  • Ability to interpret drawings
  • Detailed knowledge of fixturing and set up
  • Knowledge of hydraulics
  • Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals in relation to welding and brazing
  • Knowledge and understanding of AWS welding symbols.
  • Knowledge of forming equipment, including setup and operation.
  • Knowledge of the Piranha Ironworker
  • Knowledge of heating methods and equipment associated with the process, from heating tip selection, setup, pre-heat and post-heat
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

WORK CONDITIONS: Job Shop environment. Protective clothing, safety shoes, goggles, and helmet with protective lenses must be worn. Exposure to toxic gases and fumes. Exposure to heat, flames, and smoke. Contact with rust, grease, and dirt on metal surfaces. Working in awkward positions, confined spaces, and isolated areas.
