Job Responsibilities
Operates CDL Class A, tractor-trailer combination, vehicles and Class B, single unit, vehicles traveling statewide delivering supplies, traffic signs and materials to field shops and SCDOT offices. Responsible for transport and the proper loading of used traffic signs from statewide operations. Inspects content of vehicle thoroughly for accuracy and proper loading. Responsible for the security and condition of supplies and materials being transported.
Performs pre-trip and post-trip maintenance inspections on equipment, upkeep and general maintenance to equipment and vehicles including adding necessary fluids and lubricants, checking air pressure in tires, washing and cleaning interior and exterior. Ensures that items are loaded and secured properly before transporting. Works directly with warehouse personnel assigned to load and unload items.
Records activities for each trip by completing a trip log report, noting times of arrivals and departures at each stop, items being returned to the Supply Depot and any discrepancies or problems during the trip. Performs warehouse and inventory duties such as loading products for shipment, off-loading returned materials, receiving products, and other duties. Performs duties associated with special projects such as delivering products and materials during emergency situations, and providing support to other units within the department.
Performs other duties associated with central warehouse, distribution and service oriented operation when assigned by supervisor. Remains available to respond to calls 24 hours a day. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

Six (6) months of trades experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work hours outside the normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental related emergencies.
