Columbia Association is Hiring an OPEN SPACE OPERATIONS SEASONAL LABORER Near Columbia, MD

Under the immediate direction of the Open Space Operations Foreman and/or Special Projects Foreman, the Open Space Operations Seasonal Laborer will perform tasks and duties of a skilled nature in the support of Columbia Association events and special maintenance of Columbia Association Open Space property. They should be able to work a substantial number of evenings, weekends, and holidays to provide event support among other duties. They may also be requested to assist with generating ideas, suggestions, and overseeing programs or projects that protect and enhance the Columbia Association amenities and support Columbia Association events. They should be able to respond to and resolve various concerns and requests submitted by Columbia residents and Columbia Association internal departments. It is essential for them to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Essential functions: Must possess a valid class C license Must drive Columbia Association vehicles and maintain a valid State/Government issued driver’s license for the category vehicle being operated while adhering to all pertinent Columbia Association policies & procedures. Must support events and coordinate with event contractors, staff, and other stakeholders. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, & Holiday hours. Must follow safety procedures. Must have good eye-hand coordination. Must be able to stand for the entire shift. Able to visually inspect (with or without corrective lenses) conditions of grounds and facilities. Able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. Ability to work outside under any kind of weather condition. Ability to operate power equipment, hand tools, and machines efficiently and safely. Ability to work under unfavorable conditions such as exposure to odors, waste, and dust. Intermediate swimming skills and being comfortable working adjacent to and on bodies of water preferred. Qualifications and skills: Ability to properly and safely operate equipment used in park maintenance Must be 18 years of age or older Requires a valid MD driver’s license with a good driving record Must be able to obtain Defensive Driving certification Must be able to obtain a Department of Transportation Physical Fitness Certification Card/D.O.T Card Education: 1. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent Physical demands: Ability to stand for entire shift Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and climb without any difficulty. Ability to effectively work at different heights Lifting up to 50 pounds Work environment: Must be able to work in all kinds of outside weather conditions (extreme cold / extreme heat, rain, snow, etc.) Position requires extended hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and travel to multiple work sites. Ability to work in wet and humid environments. Able to tolerate typical exposure to some lawn care chemicals, odors, waste, and dust as normally experienced in park operations and landscape maintenance.
