Job Goal : To establish and monitor standards of excellence in Special Education so that each student involved may derive the greatest academic and personal benefit from the program.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Help facilitate a good working relationship and maintain effective communication between the department and building administration
2. Be an advisor in all areas involving the department, both to staff and to administration, especially in legal matters relating to Special Education
3. Recommend policies and programs essential to the needs of exceptional children
4. Develop and initiate survey programs for continuous identification of exceptional children
5. Establish procedures for placement, evaluation, assignment and appraisal of students with regard to the Special Education program
6. Develop procedures for referral, securing medical reports, psychological examination and placement
7. Requisition, inventory and distribute instructional materials and equipment
8. Supervise pre-registration for the following year
9. Assure that all I.E.P.'s and the necessary paperwork are in compliance and up to date
10. Assist administration in interviewing and selection of teachers
11. Submit the schedule for course offerings for each upcoming year
12. Schedule, notify and supervise I.E.P. multi-disciplinary conferences
13. Supervise Homebound and Chronically Ill programs
14. Coordinate time schedules and assign supervision for teacher aides, clerical staff and tutors to fill the needs of the department
15. Sign or have the designee sign time cards for teachers aides
16. Establish and supervise the Transition program for Special Education students including coordination with Work/Study programs in the schools
17. Coordinate psychological testing for Special Education
18. Prepare and complete all State and Federal reports
19. Write and coordinate grants related to Special Education
20. The District reserve the right to amend this job description as necessary
