Technical Instructor of Applied Mathematics
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: Do you have a passion for sharing your craft and teaching the next generation? If you have experience in applied mathematics, we would love for you to join our family of exceptional instructors. Must have previous teaching experience and demonstrate mathematical knowledge for students who need to study specific mathematical topics related to our career technical courses. Topics include measurement, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, graphs, and/or finance with an emphasis on the practical application there of.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach 15 credit hours per semester and maintain 5 hours of office time per week.
  • Work independently, as well as in collaboration with colleagues, to develop innovative curriculum which meets the needs of our diverse population of students
  • Demonstrate mathematical knowledge for students who need to study specific mathematical topics related to our career technical courses. Topics include measurement, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, graphs, and/or finance with an emphasis on the practical application of topics
  • Integrate learning management system (D2L) and MyMathLab in courses
  • Prepare relevant instructional materials that support learning by WCCC's student population, including traditional college students and high school students enrolled in college programs.
  • Assess student performance on course assignments, i.e., homework, quizzes, exams, etc., and provide feedback to support continued student growth and development.
  • Relate professional/industry perspectives to math topics through personal experience and regular communication with program instructors
  • Maintain communication with WCCC program instructors to ensure that the math program and topics support their program's needs
  • Ability to teach different modalities, including in-person, online, or hybrid
  • Provide leadership, support, and training as needed for part-time/adjunct instructors
  • Determine program needs, and maintain program budget including purchasing and cost control
  • The successful applicant will successfully interact with students, business and industry representatives, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the public in a professional manner
  • Assist in recruitment, advisement, placement, development of cooperative work experience opportunities for students and follow-up of students
  • Serve as representative of the department by participating in committees, task forces, and events at the campus, college, and/or state levels
  • Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills. Positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Coordinate industry engagement with local employers for advisory committee, internship, and other industry-specific needs
  • Perform all responsibilities and instructional duties in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and WCCC/CMU policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the maintenance of appropriate approvals & accreditation, maintain, and develop the curriculum in step with industry and state requirements.
  • The applicant will perform other duties as required including support/participating in activities that introduce and promote/encourage enrollment with high school sophomores to WCCC programs through activities such as sophomore tours, back to school nights, etc.
    Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in math or Math education
  • Evidence of teaching ability and or previous teaching experience in field
  • Ability to obtain CTE credential in Mathematics/STEM
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in the field of mathematics
