Financial Aid Student Employment & Student Cohort Coordinator
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: The Financial Aid Department at Colorado Mesa University is hiring a Student Employment & Special Programs Coordinator. This position is primarily responsible for oversight of student financial aid supported employment programs funded from federal, state, and institutional funds, including work study. In addition, the position: supports special financial aid programs including consortiums, study abroad, and special student populations, is responsible for the creation, coordination and compliance of CMU's Student Borrowing & Debt Management plan; serves as a financial aid counselor, as needed, providing direct customer service and continuous process improvements to simplify the delivery of Financial Aid to special programs and evaluate the equity of Work Study programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Oversight & Management of Student Employment
  • Oversees and manages student financial aid supported employment programs funded from federal, state, and institutional funds, including work-study.
    Management and Support of Special Programs
  • Management, reporting, and Financial Aid support for special student cohorts including but not limited to:
    o CMU - CU Engineering partnership
    o POST
    o Lineman
    o RN2BSN
    o Aviation
    o Special Online Programs
    o Study Abroad
    o Consortiums
    o Guardian Scholars
    o Reisher Scholarship Program
    o Other scholarship programs as assigned.
    o Liaison to WCCC and Montrose Campus's
    o Student Borrowing & Debt Management
    Management and support of Financial Aid Processes
  • Primary backup for Scholarship Programs Coordinator
  • Secondary backup for processing verifications
    Data, Analytics, and Process Improvement
  • Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of processing functions. Makes recommendations for, determines best solution, and implements process improvements.
  • Creates statistical reports for analysis of effectiveness of processes, and utilization of workstudy funds. Utilizes data and statistical reporting for decision making and improvements.
  • Creates, updates, and presents reports to upper management regarding the effectiveness and status of processing functions.
    Customer Service & Culture
  • Responsible for providing a high level of customer service while handling matters of significance within the Office of Financial Aid. Using independent judgement and maintaining a professional demeanor in handling routine questions, complaints and resolution of issues.
  • Supports IRIS, CMU's one-stop, including counseling, advising, and supporting staff and students.
  • Counsels students, families, faculty and staff regarding financial aid.
  • Resolves problems by clarifying the customer's complaint; determining the cause of the problem; selecting and explaining the best solution to solve the problem; expediting correction or adjustment; following up to ensure resolution.
  • Works in coordination with Payroll, Career Services, and other campus departments for: annual planning; effective and efficient delivery of services and programs across units; efficient use of limited financial and personnel resources; communication; operational management of programs; and reporting.
  • Understands, keeps current, monitors changes, and interprets guidance of Federal Financial Aid rules and regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal Financial Aid rules and regulations, including: Workstudy, Packaging, Awarding, Over awards, Return to Title IV, Direct Lending, Disbursements, Verifications, etc.
  • Presents financial aid information to high schools, campus community, and other interested groups.
    Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • An earned Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • 2 years demonstrated relevant experience to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work; adapt and find solutions to changing expectations.
  • Strong listening and communication skills, including presentations to audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and autonomously within job responsibilities, while also collaborating with several diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex policies and operationalize to ensure compliance.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Higher ed experience
  • Experience with SCT Banner or other ERP system
