Job Title: Teacher/Coach (Boys), Science MS Reports to: Principal and Athletic CoordinatorPay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale plus stipendsDept./School: Assigned Campus Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Days: 187 Primary Purpose:Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in sport assigned. Contribute to education program as a whole and to growth of students involved in athletics. Qualifications:Education/Certification:Bachelor’s degree from accredited universityValid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assignedDemonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned Special Knowledge/Skills:Ability to instruct students and manage their behaviorGeneral knowledge of curriculum and instructionKnowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rulesKnowledge of subjects assignedGeneral knowledge of coaching techniques and proceduresAbility to instruct and supervise student athletesStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsRequired Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Major Responsibilities and Duties:InstructionUse a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in the sport assigned.Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.Program ManagementEstablish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis. Model performance criteria and physical movements required for successful student performance of sport.Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.Work with athletic director to schedule competitions and plan season activities including practices, special events, and tournaments.Coordinate with transportation department for travel arrangements to out-of-town events. (Drive bus to transport student to out-of-district competitions).Ensure compliance with all UIL rules.Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program and make changes based on findings.Student ManagementAccompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports both at-home and on out-of-town trips.Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participationCommunicationEstablish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.AdministrationAssist in selection of equipment and instructional materials.Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.Initiate and approve purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment and maintain a current inventory of all equipment and fixed assets within program. OtherDependable performance requires reliable and dependable attendance.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.Supervisory Responsibilities:Supervise assigned teacher aide(s). Equipment used:Personal or laptop computer, printer, copier, fax machine, shredder, calculator, telephone, electronic mobile devices, projector, video display monitor and related coaching equipment Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun and heat. Regularly sit, talk or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequent repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds; occasionally required to stand, walk reach with hands and arms; vision abilities include close vision; and color vision, regularly work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress; the noise level is usually moderate. The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail and high levels of accuracy. There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues. Predictable and regular attendance expected.
