Coherent Corp. US is Hiring an Equipment Engineer Near Brook, NJ

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a wide variety of design, construction and troubleshooting activities in context of RD&E and manufacturing of silicon carbide (SiC) material and substrate products at WBG/NJ location; Aids and assists in the development of new and/or improved SiC crystal growth, polishing, and/or substrate characterization equipment, capabilities and procedures; Takes responsibility for proper functioning of automated and electronic devices and infrastructure equipment used throughout the facility; Team member for development and ongoing support of new crystal growth and wafer processing equipment for scientific research as well as production purposes; Provides local assistance to corporate MIS group. Provides electronic troubleshooting of equipment throughout facility as required; Supports continual improvement of ISO-9000 Quality Management System
Education:
  • BS (ME or EE) in Engineering.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience providing equipment automation support (both software and hardware) in a semiconductor wafer manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with problem analysis and resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results independently or working with others
  • Ability to recommend and implement improvements
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with networked PC based computer system (MS Office, spreadsheets, access, graphics, Email, MRP systems, and accounting software)
Special Skills:
  • General knowledge and hands-on experience in the procurement, installation, networking, startup, operation and maintenance of electronic instruments, I/O subsystems, controllers, and computers in an electronic or optical materials environment
  • Demonstrated capability to solve problems that occur during the development of new equipment and procedures
  • Commitment to developing and maintaining ISO-9000 compliant activities
  • Ability to work with employees and within organizational disciplines when quality issues must be addressed and resolved.

1) Process Equipment 45%
  1. Works with crystal growth and fabrication engineers/scientists to identify ideas and requirements for modified, upgraded or new process equipment.
  2. Works with crystal growth and fabrication engineers/scientists to reach agreements on designs, costs, resource plans and timelines for high priority process equipment projects.
  3. Collaborates with technical staff in the design and development of improved process equipment. Performs detailed design and development tasks of new systems
  4. Assists in the documentation of new equipment designs, processes and procedures in accordance with quality management system.
  5. Leads the troubleshooting, problem identification, and corrective action process when crystal growth equipment is not performing to specification or end-user expectation.
  6. Develops and improves new and existing process control schema, including automation equipment, I/O subsystems, sensors, transducers, hardware and software. Work with internal scientists/engineers as well as vendors to determine optimal device requirements and specifications.
  7. Develops and improves new and existing network infrastructure systems, SCADA subsystems, and database interface systems.
  8. Act as WBG Liaison to corporate MIS group; Interface closely with MIS to administer, implement and continually improve the effectiveness of WBG data management systems
  9. Participates at a high level in the implementation and improvement of preventative maintenance program activities for all WBG equipment and facilities.
2) WBG Internal Capability Development 35%
  1. Work with engineers, scientists, program manager and sales personnel to identify needs and goals for new and/or upgraded production / automation capabilities
  2. Work with engineering, R&D and program managers to prioritize the identified needs and make progress toward goals
  3. Execute the design, procurement, installation, startup and hardening of new or upgraded equipment and procedures according to approved budgets and timelines;
  4. Develop/modify/update drawings of new or upgraded equipment and components
  5. Ensure that new procedures are developed, documented, approved and on-file as new capabilities are commissioned for production use
  6. Ensure that operators/users are properly trained to carry out new/upgraded procedures in a safe and accurate manner before certifying them to utilize new/upgraded equipment
  7. Provide inputs to the 5-year planning and annual budgeting processes such that projected infrastructure, equipment and automation needs can be adequately recognized, priced, budgeted, appropriated and implemented on an organized, anticipated and timely basis
3) Overall WBG Group Support 10%
  1. Interact directly with specified WBG/NJ resources to coordinate and enhance overall WBG group characterization, testing and quality assessment improvement initiatives
  2. Provide specialized equipment services and/or support to WBG/NJ team members.
  3. Provide electronic troubleshooting support of all equipment in the plant
4) Human Resources / Administrative 10%
  1. An ESGP is co-developed and pursued.
  2. Department information systems, records, reports and metrics are accurate and generated on time
  3. Company policy is followed regarding all safety, environmental and ergonomic requirements.
  4. Responsible for maintaining a quality work environment housekeeping standards.

5) Special Assignments 10%
  1. Support special projects as required.
  2. Report on projects and make recommendations to upper Management.
