COE COLLEGE is Hiring a Director of Residence Life Near Rapids, IA

Director of Residence Life
Coe College, a small, residential, liberal arts college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is seeking a new Director of Residence Life to join a vibrant and warm Student Life team and campus community. The Director of Residence Life is responsible for leading the Residence Life department, budget, staff, and programs at a residential liberal arts college with approximately 1100 residents. The position supervises a Director of Housing Operations (live-on) and two Assistant Directors (live-in) and indirectly oversees the RA program. The Director also will serve as a member of the Student Life leadership team, which strives to create a high-quality and vibrant outside-of-the-classroom community from the point of enrollment through graduation with an emphasis on student-centeredness and retention. The Director of Residence Life also supervises the primary on-call duty rotation and crisis response, and serves in a secondary (back-up) on-call rotation. Finally, the Director also supervises student workers who serve the shared office suite in Student Life/DEI.
Work Schedule: Hours: 1.0 FTE with significant evening and weekend commitments, Months of Service per Year: 12
Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Selects, supervises, develops, and evaluates three professional staff members and 47 RAs.
  • Creates and enacts departmental initiatives such as RA selection and training, room selection, break housing, etc. Manages the administration of annual processes such as date of record and updates/changes in Jenzabar.
  • Liaises with Physical Plant, Campus Safety and Security, and third-party vendors such as linen/lofting companies.
  • Manages departmental budgets.
  • Collaborates with Accessibility Services regarding housing accommodations, including emotional support animals.
  • Chairs the committee that reviews off-campus housing requests.
  • Participates in a secondary on-call rotation as a back-up to the primary team.
  • Coordinates the primary on-call rotation and the relevant training required.
  • Supervises front desk student workers for the shared Student Life office suite.
  • Manages the ID badge program.
  • Serves on various college committees that require Residence Life participation.
  • Assesses programs and initiatives for Residence Life through learning outcomes, surveys, focus groups, or other relevant systems.
  • Serves as hearing officer for high level conduct cases.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or related field required.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience with residence life, housing, or conduct.
  • Appreciation for, or experience with, a small residential liberal arts college is preferred.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States as visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the United States as we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
  • Successful completion of a driver and criminal background check in accordance with Coe College policy.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Some evening and weekend hours are expected, especially during the academic year. Ability to respond to issues that occur outside typical working hours.
  • Ability to navigate residential buildings on campus, including stairs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally drive students to off-campus sites.
  • Typical office setting – stationary for several hours at a time.
