Description
Summary
The Community Liaison/Educator works closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Marketing/Communications staff and CODAC Substance Use Treatment staff. The purpose of this position is to enhance collaboration and coordination amongst cross-sectional community partners to address substance use disorders and increase education to community stakeholders regarding overdose prevention, harm reduction and substance use treatment. This is a grant funded position. CODAC Health, Recovery & Wellness, Inc. is a subrecipient of funding through the Pima County Health Department from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for Overdose Data to Action: Limiting Overdose through Collaborative Actions in Localities (OD2A: LOCAL). The grant is intended to bolster community collaboration to reduce nonfatal and fatal overdoses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate and work with the Pima County Health Department and external partners to promote collaboration and coordination to address overdose prevention.
  • Organize and facilitate monthly collaboration meetings.
    Identify and build relationships with provider networks and community coalitions to improve service coordination and collaboration.
  • Distribute harm reduction items including Narcan, fentanyl testing supplies and basic first aid supplies.
  • Provide education to community stakeholders on:
    • Overdose prevention and harm reduction.
    • Navigation of substance use treatment programs, including Medication Assisted Treatment.
    • The Good Samaritan Law.
    • Narcan and drug testing.
  • Participate in numerous community events related to mental health, opioid use disorder and other substance misuse prevention and treatment services.
  • Assist with enhancing written information as well as information contained on CODAC's Web site and social media platforms. Works with CODAC at 380 leadership to ensure accuracy of information.
  • Distribute written materials on CODAC services and about overdose prevention and substance use treatment.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with community organizations.
  • Track and maintain written records of community contacts and outreach. Track monthly activity and prepares monthly progress reports.
  • Collaborate with CODAC's Marketing and Communications Staff as well as CODAC's Substance Use Treatment programs.
  • Identify community leaders for the purpose of fostering good community relationships and proactive associations with identified leaders such as elected officials, law enforcement, medical community, public health department and other social service agency leaders.
  • Safeguards Protected Health Information (PHI)..
  • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings to provide project updates and address technical assistance needs.
  • Performs other related duties in accordance with agency growth and changes.
Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Behavior Health Field or Health Educator, required.
Experience:
  • Two (2) years of experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and/or providing health education in a community setting..
  • One (1) year of experience facilitating educational groups, required.
  • One (1) year experience working with culturally diverse populations, required.
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid Arizona Driver's license, proof of current insurance and willingness to use personal vehicle. Driver's license is an essential requirement for performing duties for this position.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record - no more than 2 moving violations or a license suspension in past 3 years.
  • Fingerprint clearance, may be required
Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources.
  • Extensive knowledge of behavioral health challenges which include knowledge of mental health, trauma and the dynamics of substance misuse disorders and substance use treatment options with particular attention to opioid use disorders. Knowledge of how social determinants of health impact access to care and health outcomes.
  • Familiarity with various ethnic and cultural groups.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills using MS Office products, Word, Excel, Access, etc., importing/exporting data to/from applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Working flexible hours as required.
