Cockram Construction is Hiring a Construction Manager Near Rockville, MD

Construction Manager
Cockram Construction, founded in 1861, is an international management-owned, construction services business, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. Worldwide our locations include the USA, Australia, China, India, and New Zealand. In the US, we provide top level professional services on our client sites in pharma/bio and the themed attraction industries.

We are currently in search of a Construction Manager to join our team. The selected candidate will have extensive experience in construction project management on high tech and/or pharmaceutical/biotech projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and oversee construction project from onset to completion.
  • Supervise site personnel including superintendents, performing as point of contact to disseminate information, status and direction along with setting priorities.
  • Defining scope of work packages, participate on procurement of trade subcontractors and equipment, and negotiating contracts and fees.
  • Management of trade contractor claims and change orders.
  • Responsible for setting project goals/deadlines.
  • Ensuring projects remain on target by taking timely remedial action to avoid unplanned/budgeted overruns.
  • Direct development of construction schedules and provide budget and schedule monitoring and controls.
  • Manage client and consultant meetings, interpreting their needs.
  • Proactively manage all issues in relation to site occupational health and safety to avoid accidents and lost time injuries.
  • Ensure all contractors complete the As-Built Documentation and logs.

Requirements

  • Understanding of all facets of the construction process.
  • Familiarity with construction management software packages.
  • Advance knowledge of construction management processes means and methods.
  • Proven working experience in construction management.
  • Must be computer literate with sound working knowledge of spreadsheets and project scheduling.
  • Hands-on team leader, fostering a sense of team building.
  • Ability to remain objective and non-reactive when handling emotive issues.
  • Possessing good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in using the principles of 'forecast cost at complete".
  • Possess strong interpersonal and personal skills including: an ability to manage conflict, have a sense of urgency, self-motivated and ability to work with people at different levels and cultures.

Computer Systems: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Procore and Primavera P6

Education and Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering or related field.
  • Understanding the Project Management Lifecycle.
  • Strong safety background required.
