Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Health Information Manager to oversee the health information management (HIM) department in our critical access hospital. The ideal candidate will ensure that all our medical records are accurate, securely handled, and compliant with healthcare laws and regulations. Your expertise will be essential in managing both electronic and paper-based information and ensuring the smooth operation of our health information systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the daily operations of the HIM department, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to policies and regulations.
Maintain the confidentiality and security of patient health information in compliance with HIPAA and other relevant legislation.
Implement and manage electronic health records (EHR) systems and other health information technologies.
Develop and enforce hospital-wide information management policies, in line with current legal and ethical standards.
Train and supervise HIM staff, ensuring ongoing education and compliance with the latest health information practices and technologies.
Conduct regular audits to monitor and improve the quality of medical records.
Collaborate with IT, clinical, and administrative staff to optimize patient information systems and processes.
Prepare and manage the departmental budget, seeking ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs while maintaining high-quality service.
Ensure accurate coding and billing for reimbursement and research purposes.
Keep abreast of the latest developments in health information systems, federal and state regulations, and best practices in HIM.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
RHIA or RHIT certification required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in health information management, with supervisory experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Proficient in the use of electronic health record systems and healthcare informatics.
Strong understanding of medical terminology, coding, and the legal aspects of health information.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.

Working Conditions:
General office and healthcare setting with standard hours.
May require occasional extended hours to meet deadlines or manage department needs.
