POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Development Officer is an experienced, skilled, and integral member of CLUES’ Development team who is responsible for raising funds from corporations, foundations, and government agencies to support general operations, economic prosperity initiatives, workforce development, youth and adult education programs, and special projects and other areas as needed. The Senior Development Officer is able to clearly and compellingly articulate CLUES’ mission, strategic vision, values, and programmatic goals in written proposals and public presentations. The Senior Development Officer identifies and researches new prospects for funding and initiates and coordinates site visits with program officers. The Senior Development Officer leads all aspects of grant preparation and submission, including working in collaboration with program staff and institutional leaders to create proposals and coordinate budgets. The Senior Development Officer manages relationships with funders, government representatives, and internal and external stakeholders. 
The Senior Development Officer works in partnership with the President, Leadership staff, and Senior Director of Development to establish and meet ambitious fundraising goals to support an annual operating budget of $15 million. The Senior Development Officer manages multiple assignments in all stages of development and completes them on time. The Senior Development Officer is skillful at working with individuals of diverse backgrounds at all levels of the organization and supports them in achieving their programmatic goals. The Senior Development Officer adds professional experience and leadership skills to a successful, collaborative, and highly engaged Development team.

Schedule: Full-Time. Generally, Monday – Friday Office hours
Estimated Salary: $62,550.00 to $75,000.00/year (depending on experience & qualifications)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fund Development – 80% of time

  • Works in partnership with President and Leadership Team, Program Directors, and Senior Director of Development to define program focus areas for solicitation of grants.
  • Actively leads in prospecting for grants. Meets with Program Leaders and Development team to discuss new programs/service opportunities.
  • Actively participates in the cultivation and maintenance of relationships with funders and community partners. 
  • Drafts and submits grant proposals in collaboration with Finance and Program Leaders. Translates funders’ objectives and requirements into successful proposals. 
  • Keeps Senior Director of Development apprised of program issues regarding grant deliverables and financial performance. 
  • Supports President in public policy and advocacy efforts, including drafting proposals.

Administration and Staff Support – 20% of time

  • Maintain efficient and effective processes to ensure accurate and timely data entry and financial and grant reporting.
  • Participate in Leadership team and board meetings as needed.
  • Assist in training, mentoring, and coaching less experienced development staff and interns. Provide constructive feedback as well as positive recognition. 
  • Nurture a healthy, dynamic, and team-based working environment. 

General duties

  • Represent CLUES externally when appropriate, promoting the mission, values, and services of the organization. 
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned by supervisor, including support with annual events such as Fiesta Latina and Gala Latina.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS

  • This position may supervise Development Interns/administrative support.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience & Key Abilities*

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 
  • Five to seven years of experience in non-profit development and fundraising required. Senior level development and fundraising experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrated success writing major grants ($100,000 and up) required. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required. Must demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to be efficient and effective in managing multiple deadlines and in timely submission of proposals and reports. 
  • Experience securing government grants and federal funding strongly desired.
  • Must be knowledgeable of Minnesota’s philanthropic community and other regional or national funders.
  • Experience with fundraising and donor management software/databases preferred.
  • Demonstrated accuracy with details and commitment to high standards of quality.
  • Ability to work creatively, strategically, and effectively in a complex organization and fast-paced environment. 
  • A genuine commitment to the mission, values, and vision of CLUES; ability to articulate the mission persuasively to diverse audiences. 
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness required. 
*Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. 

Language Skills 

  • Effective communication in English, both verbally and in writing, required. Bilingual in Spanish and English a plus.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written materials, including reports, contracts, and proposals.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and information in an organized and effective manner, including writing reports. 
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and respond appropriately to questions from clients, co-workers, and external parties.

Computer Skills 

  • Proficient working knowledge of email software, the Internet, databases, and common Windows-based programs, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Must be willing to attend training to advance technical skills and maintain appropriate skill levels to perform job duties.

Background check

  • Must pass a criminal background check. As a condition of continued employment, staff person may be required to submit to periodic re-verification of this background check.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • This position has a hybrid work model (in-office and remote work*), where the majority of the work is done remotely while team members are required to attend in-person meetings and have an in-person presence for different responsibilities on a regular basis. This hybrid work model may be adjusted as needed per job responsibilities and business needs.
