Clues is Hiring a Community Health Educator (bilingual Eng-Span) Near Minneapolis, MN

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Health Educator (Educator) provides bilingual and culturally responsive community health education to Latinx communities in the Twin Cities area with a primary focus on Sexual Health Education – for both Latinx parents and youth, as well as providing support services to Latinx families with issues of emotional health and substance abuse in collaboration with CLUES Behavioral Health Programming. The Educator will facilitate and coordinate engaging workshops, support with curriculum development and delivery, and provide overall program support in both English and Spanish to promote the health and well-being of all participants.
The Educator will provide high-quality education and support services throughout different focus areas within the overall programs of the Community Health Department. Depending on the overall professional skills and the needs within the program and department, there may be a possibility to specialize in a specific focus area of education and support, while still providing overall program support to all areas.
This position is part of a diverse community health and wellness skilled team and reports directly to the Health Education and Outreach Manager.

Schedule: Full-Time. Generally, Monday – Friday Office hours. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
Estimated Pay: $21.50 to $24.75 (depending on experience & qualifications).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Coordination & Community Education

  • Plan, develop, and deliver medically accurate, bias-free, developmentally appropriate, and culturally responsive health education workshops to promote health and well-being of all program participants. Specifically:
    • Sexual health and sexuality education to groups of primarily Latinx youth in both Spanish and English in various environment.
    • Familias Unidas Program activities and workshops using the Celebrating Families (CF!) curriculum in collaboration with Behavioral Health.
  • Coordinate with community site partners on virtual/in-person logistical items needed for programming, such as participant transportation, childcare, meeting space/room set-up, and food when needed.
  • Familiarize oneself with the curricula used to deliver programming (Celebrating Families, Cuídate, Our Whole Lives, F.L.A.S.H., Padres Informados, Jovenes Preparados, It’s that Easy) through training and independent study.
  • Coordinate recruitment, training, and scheduling of staff and volunteers for workshops and group session support.
  • Collaborate with Health Educators (external and internal) and program supervisor to plan and deliver workshops; collaborate with other CLUES departments to offer a variety of workshops and presentations to CLUES clients and participants.
  • Collaborate with Behavioral Health Department to coordinate scheduling of Familias Unidas/CF! sessions.
  • Conduct focus groups with different age groups to assess the need for Community Health related workshops and presentations.
  • Create supplemental materials (including translating and adapting materials from other education curricula and resources) to use in educational workshops.
  • Adapt lesson plans to meet various classroom timeframes determined in collaboration with partnering agencies in the community.
  • Maintain connections with other professionals in the field through regular attendance of professional network events, meetings, and conferences (e.g. The Sexuality and Family Life Educators (SFLE)).
  • Seek personal and professional development opportunities to maintain accurate, up-to-date community health knowledge, and ensure that educational materials and strategies are trauma-informed, inclusive of all genders and identities, shame-reducing/sex-positive, and culturally responsive.

Community Outreach and Partnership Building

  • Identify, promote, and recruit community partners interested in implementing and delivering Community Health programs – including Sexual Health Education & Familias Unidas.
  • Arrange locations for CF! (Familias Unidas) group sessions, Sexual Health Education workshops, and general Community Health workshops, in community locations, schools, or churches with support from the position supervisor.
  • Maintain and build partnerships with schools and community agencies interested in hosting educational workshops and presentations.
  • Attend and/or participate in health fairs and community events to outreach to Latinx and other community members, as well as to distribute materials and brochures about health care access, health screenings, and other promotion and illness prevention resources.

Program Evaluation, Reporting, & Data Collection

  • Complete program and workshop report as required by program evaluators and funders. Including but not limited to participant engagement, impact on community, partnership development, etc.
  • Establish and maintain participant tracking and other data collection systems.
  • Administer program surveys to participants and make recommendations for curriculum improvements to supervisor using feedback from participants.
  • Collaborate with evaluation team to conduct on-going program evaluation and quality improvement.

General Duties

  • Collaborate with other CLUES programs and departments to integrate programs and resources.
  • Actively participate in achievement of program goals and objectives, including department and/or agency-wide activities and events.
  • Understand, support, and promote the mission, operating values, and agency services of CLUES within the community.
  • Exercise sensitivity when working with diverse populations.
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, agency policies and other applicable laws, regulations and ethical standards.
  • Demonstrate appropriate workplace behaviors and conduct and set an example for clients to emulate.
  • Acknowledge and identify the boundaries of your position and refer to support resources as appropriate when the situation merits.
  • Maintain open communication with supervisors and solicit feedback when necessary.
  • Participate in assigned training and department activities as required.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities but may supervise volunteers or interns as needed.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience & Key Abilities*

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, sexuality education, youth development, or a related field is desirable but not required, along with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English with cultural sensitivity and awareness required.
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse individuals in a service-oriented environment preferred.
  • Ability to develop educational materials and aids, and to promote and present health education initiatives.
  • Comfortable discussing sexuality and sexual health in a sensitive and appropriate manner and demonstrated experience providing fact-based sexuality education.
  • Public speaking and group facilitation skills.
  • Experience recruiting for and running adult education groups.
  • Commitment to examining personal biases related to race, class, gender, and sexual expression.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends, as assigned.
  • Skill in organizing time independently to complete multiple projects, deadlines, and program priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
*Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Language Skills

  • Effective communication in English and Spanish, both verbally and in writing, required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written materials, including reports, contracts, and proposals.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and information in an organized and effective manner, including writing reports.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and respond appropriately to questions from clients, co-workers, management and external parties.

Transportation

  • Must have a reliable motor vehicle for independent transportation, valid driver’s license, proof of automotive insurance, and maintain a good driving record. Must submit to and pass annual recertification of compliance with CLUES Automobile and Transportation Policy and driving record check.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient working knowledge of email software, the Internet, databases, and common Windows-based programs, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Must be willing to attend training to advance technical skills and maintain appropriate skill levels to perform job duties.

  • Must pass a criminal background check and driving record check. As a condition of continued employment, staff person may be required to submit to periodic re-verification of these, and additional background checks.
