POSITION SUMMARY


The Community Health Intern for Food Access in Greater Minnesota will play a vital role in advancing CLUES’ mission by focusing on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Navigation in Southwest Minnesota, specifically in Blue Earth, Kandiyohi, and Worthington Counties. This position will work collaboratively with CLUES Greater Minnesota staff navigators to provide comprehensive support to low-income Latinos and immigrants in accessing essential food resources.

Reports to: Food Access Supervisor
Location: Hybrid Work Model – Remote: Work from Home; In-Person: CLUES St. Paul and Greater MN Offices.
Position Type: Temporary
Schedule: Part-Time, 20 hours per week. Generally, Monday – Friday Office hours. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required. 
Estimated Pay: $16.50
Benefits: Temporary, part-time employees receive all legally mandated benefits (such as workers’ compensation insurance, Social Security, and mandatory sick and safe time accrual).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SNAP Navigation & Support Services

  • Screen individuals and families for SNAP eligibility in a culturally competent and health equity-focused manner. 
  • Enroll eligible participants in the SNAP program, while providing comprehensive SNAP application assistance.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up and support to ensure program success and address any barriers. 
  • Work closely with the Housing Navigator and Greater Minnesota Workforce Development Navigator to ensure a holistic approach to client support. 
  • Collaborate on cross-program initiatives to address the needs of low-income Latinos and immigrants.

Community Outreach & Engagement

  • Conduct outreach and awareness activities related to SNAP and other essential services.
  • Engage with the target audience of primarily low-income Latinos and immigrants. 

Data Collection & Reporting

  • Collect quantitative and qualitative data on SNAP Navigation activities. 
  • Prepare reports highlighting the impact of the program on food access and health equity.

General Duties

  • Promote the mission, operating values, and agency services of CLUES within the community.
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, agency policies and other applicable laws, regulations and ethical standards.
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience & Key Abilities

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required. 
  • A minimum of one year in pursuit of an associate or bachelor’s degree (in any field), or a minimum of one year of experience in the fields of social services, education, marketing, nutrition, public health, sociology, etc.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish and cultural sensitivity and awareness required.
  • Experience with and sensitivity towards culturally and financially diverse communities.
  • Strong interest in food access/food justice, health policy issues, health advocacy, and/or community outreach. 
  • Experience with customer service.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and skilled in interpersonal communication.
  • Outstanding time-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivate.
  • Work experience with food banks or similar hunger-related organizations a plus.
  • Previous knowledge of SNAP program a plus. 

Language Skills 

  • Effective communication in English and Spanish, both verbally and in writing, required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written materials, including reports, contracts, and proposals.
  • Ability to effectively present ideas and information in an organized and effective manner, including writing reports. 
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and respond appropriately to questions from clients, co-workers, management and external parties.

Transportation 

  • Must have access to use a reliable motor vehicle for independent transportation, valid driver’s license, proof of automotive insurance, and maintain a good driving record. Must submit to and pass annual recertification of compliance with CLUES Automobile and Transportation Policy and driving record check.

Computer Skills 

  • Proficient working knowledge of email software, the Internet, databases, and common Windows-based programs, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
  • Must be willing to attend training to advance technical skills and maintain appropriate skill levels to perform job duties. 


WORKING CONDITIONS

Background check

  • Must pass a criminal background check and driving record check. As a condition of continued employment, staff person may be required to submit to periodic re-verification of these, and additional background checks.
