Description

Every Assistant Store Manager is responsible for the proper and efficient operation of his or her shift, within company policy, in such a manner as to ensure that the shift contributes to the profitability of the store. In addition, the Assistant Store Manager is a secondary leader with responsibility that can include the processing of daily paperwork, making price changes, providing supervisory guidance, safety leadership, and maintaining excellent store conditions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all tasks in a safe manner.
  • Ensure that each customer receives prompt and courteous service providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding store conditions, solid product knowledge and all other components of customer service.
  • Promotes sales of all items sold in the store or restaurant.
  • Use plus-selling techniques (e.g. Suggestive Selling).
  • Understands and promotes all monthly specials and discount programs (e.g. 3-pack specials).
  • Understands and follows all sales policies and procedures on ALL restricted sales items (e.g. tobacco sales and alcohol sales).
  • Keeps accurate cash controls and is accountable for cash variances.
  • Makes merchandise and gasoline price changes as necessary.
  • Check in vendor deliveries.
  • Verifies cigarette and lottery ticket counts daily.
  • Performs all job duties of the Store Manager when the Store Manager is not present.
  • In the absence of the Store Manager, processes paperwork including previous night's monies, adding money orders, and verifying lottery sales.
  • In the absence of the Store Manager, enters the daily paperwork in the computer.
  • Assists in ordering merchandise.
  • In the absence of the Store Manager, prepares bank deposits.
  • Maintain good store conditions and overall property conditions by cleaning and performing general housekeeping duties such as cleaning bathrooms, sweeping, mopping and dusting.
  • Stocks shelves and coolers.
  • Monitors fueling pumps to prevent drive offs.
  • Maintains excellent parking lot conditions.
  • Assist in supervision of the work of all Customer Service Specialist.
  • Understands all store related equipment utilized in the performance of job duties includes point-of-sale equipment, EBT machine, money order machines, electronic card machines, cash register, lottery machine, check reader machine.
  • Office equipment utilized in the performance of job duties includes and a personal computer.
  • Minimal travel via automobile may be required.

Qualifications


Education and Experience

High School Diploma with at least 6 months of retail clerk experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Knowledge of the basics of retailing. Good interpersonal skills. Knowledge of supervisory skills. Ability to work with a degree of stress associated with meeting deadlines. Detail orientation to ensure accuracy of work.
