This renowned and prestigious hospital is actively interviewing for a Nursing Quality Specialist to help lead and improve a busy Surgical Services Department. Join one of the SF Bay Area’s most advanced medical centers, and help improve operations for a dedicated and experienced Operating Room (OR) Team.

The Surgical Services Nurse Quality Specialist will join an outstanding medical center and play an important role in supporting the clinical and administrative mission of the health system. This 300-bed medical center has earned a reputation for outstanding patient care and employee engagement. This medical center is well known for its commitment to advancing community health and working hard to serve the people of the immediate San Francisco Bay Area, offers a full range of high-acuity and complex services, as well as a diverse outpatient clinical network.

Reporting to the Administrative Director of Perioperative Services, the Surgical Services Quality Specialist will support a distinguished team of surgery professionals. This person will work closely with a CNOR Operating Room Manager, Assistant Nurse Managers, Charge Nurses, and Surgery Staff RNs to develop and lead quality initiatives to improve both operations and satisfaction for the department.

Performing over 2000 procedures per month, this is one of the Bay Area’s busiest Perioperative Service Lines. The Surgical Services Quality Specialist will have the opportunity to work with a tenured staff of service leaders and dedicated staff of RNs, and will coordinate a wide range of activities that keep things running smoothly. This 20-OR department has cutting-edge technology built into every suite, and offers a full range of surgery procedures, from Neurosurgery to Orthopedics, and Cardiothoracic to Podiatry. This unit has been awarded both locally and nationally for high performing metrics in Cardiovascular Surgery, low infection rates, and outstanding employee engagement. Engagement is another place that the Surgery Department really shines, as the nurses here feel like they have a voice and like they’re part of a family.

The Surgical Services Nursing Quality Specialist will take a very important role in supporting the Surgical Services Director in the administration and clinical advancement of the unit. This person will lead develop, implement, and lead a wide array of quality initiatives that touch nearly every aspect of operations.

This person will:

  • Work with departmental leadership to coordinate quality programs aimed at improving turnaround times, on-time starts, and in some cases door-to-table times
  • Spearhead unit-based accreditation, regulatory, and licensing programs with the CA DPH, CMS, and Joint Commission
  • Provide expertise regarding patient safety, risk management, and infection control activities
  • Serve as a consultant, mentor, and educator for Nursing Staff, Support Staff, and Physicians alike
  • Collect, analyze, and report data relating to quality improvements in the Surgical Services Department, building and executing projects to increase collaboration interdepartmentally.
