Cleveland Play House is Hiring a Part Time OST Specialist Near Cleveland, OH

Part Time OST Specialist

Classification: Part-time, Year Round, Grant Funded

Salaried Compensation: $30 per hour

Schedule: Hours to vary between 2pm and 6pm depending on programming needs. No more than 20 hours per week

Reports to: Manager of Pedagogy, Cleveland Play House, Education Department

Mission: Cleveland Play House's mission is to inspire, stimulate and entertain diverse audiences across Northeast Ohio by producing plays and theatre education programs of the highest professional standards. We believe in the importance of theatre education to the well-being of young people and the community that is its mission to serve. We use it as a tool to bond community with community; to bolster our knowledge of ourselves and others; to amplify our artistic awareness as participants and practitioners.

Description: The Out of School Time (OST) Specialist Instructor will focus on bringing the arts and related activities and professions to K-12 students who otherwise may not have access. The Instructor is responsible for teaching knowledge and skills in their field such as (but not limited to):

  • Art - Visual Artistry, Paint, Textiles, etc.
  • Theatre - Acting, Directing, etc.
  • Theatre Design - Literacy-based or Art-focused: Costuming, Wig Construction, Lighting/Electrics, Sound, etc.
  • Writing - Playwriting, Creative Composition, Script Analysis, etc.
  • Performance Studies - Everyday Life Performance/Expression, Performance Art, Sports, etc.
  • Music - Vocal/choral, Instrumental, Theory, etc.
  • Dance - Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Interpretive, Hip Hop, Ballroom, Tap, etc.

This position will primarily work in collaboration with: Manager of Pedagogy, Director of Education and Artistic Strategy, Director of OST, and Director of Community Building to set the vision and goals for the education department.

Responsibilities include:

  • Promoting and Modeling CPH's commitment to create an anti-racist, safe, positive and trauma-informed approach to education that is culturally competent and creative.
  • Teaching (direct instruction, curriculum planning, and implementation) in theatre and performance enrichment for K-12 students.
  • Document and submit weekly curriculum reporting and attendance logs.
  • Create and maintain positive classroom culture in collaboration with school staff.
  • Participate in school, CPH educational, artistic, and other trainings as necessary, including trauma-informed care and practices.
  • Correspond appropriately with CPH and assigned school staff.
  • Attend special events with the school community to build relationships.
  • Assist in facilitating K-12 students' access to art and theatre education.
  • Substitute for other OST Specialist Instructors as needed.
  • Support the creation and implementation of enrichment programming.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to working with educators, artists, and young people.

Skills and Qualities:

  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail.
  • Ability to self-manage, solve problems, and make decisions.
  • Comfortable in both collaborative and independent working environments.
  • Strong commitment to working with life-long learners and a desire to work with young people, grades K-12.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Theatre, Dance, Music, Visual Art, Performance Studies, or related field strongly preferred. Master's degree a plus.
  • Experience working in your field for at least 2 years preferred, additional education or internships may be substituted.
  • Teaching experience with diverse age groups in an urb
  • an educational setting is preferred.
  • Culturally aware and experienced in incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices across all platforms.
