Cleveland Museum of Natural History is Hiring a General Maintenance Tech Near Cleveland, OH
Position: General Maintenance Technician
Reports to: Director of Facilities
Status: Full time hourly, Non-Exempt
Hours: 6:30am – 3pm
Compensation: $18 - $21.50 hr.
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History (CMNH), founded in 1920, is in the heart of University Circle, five miles east of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Considered one of the finest institutions of its kind in North America, the Museum offers an incredible visitor experience, attracting roughly 275,000 visitors a year.

POSITION SUMMARY:
General Maintenance Technician must be knowledgeable in troubleshooting, repairing, and performing basic preventative maintenance on building equipment and systems. Technician will also have some skills in one or more building trades including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, appliance repair, or life-safety systems. The Maintenance Technician also performs routine carpentry, plumbing and electrical work utilizing hand and power tools.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works required hours, available during non-work hours as needed, and responds to emergency calls in a timely manner.
- Meets the attendance guidelines of the job and adheres to regulatory compliance, departmental, and museum policies.
- Understands basic HVAC system and able to complete preventive maintenance on building systems.
- Understands basic Building Automation Systems and possesses the ability to assist in identifying and resolving problems.
- Replaces burned-out light bulbs, checks electrical circuits, switches, and outlets, and makes repairs, as needed.
- Assures the proper operation of a wide variety of mechanical equipment and devices, including but not limited to pumps, engines, motors, compressors, and laboratory equipment, through troubleshooting and repair.
- Performs preventive maintenance work orders according to schedule and plan.
- Ensures that outdoor areas are regularly cleaned and inspected.
- Ability to perform seasonal snow and ice removal.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A high school diploma or the equivalent is required.
- A two year accredited technical degree is required. (Substitutions for degree: completion of a two year accredited technical apprenticeship program; Completion of a vocational school HVAC/R, plumbing program, or commercial maintenance training program; a current State of Ohio Stationary Engineer’s License; OR the equivalent of two years full time paid employment working commercial or industrial maintenance.)
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, as well as verbal and written communications skills, are required.
- Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) is preferred.
- A valid Ohio driver’s license is required.
