Cleveland County is Hiring a NUTRITIONIST II Near Shelby, NC

This position's primary role is to certify women, infants, and children as needing supplemental food for the Cleveland County WIC Program in accordance with all WIC Federal, State, and County guidelines, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Health Nutrition Program Director. The normal work schedule includes Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of principles of normal and therapeutic nutrition. Considerable knowledge and skill in nutrition and dietary assessment techniques (anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary), and in interpretation of data. General knowledge of office procedures, methods, and practices. Ability to learn, interpret, and apply federal, state, and local WIC Program rules and regulations. Ability to deal tactfully with the public and to exercise good judgement in appraising situation and making decisions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Interact with WIC participants and applicants daily in person and via phone: Conduct WIC certifications including providing nutrition education and counseling for normal growth and development of infants, children, pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women
Provide specialized and/or therapeutic nutrition education and dietary counseling such as gestational diabetes, failure to thrive, chronic high blood pressure, children with developmental problems for any WIC participant or in special cases, other health department clients
Provide a positive breastfeeding environment.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration; or Master's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education- approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience; or Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor's degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience; or a Bachelor's of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires sitting and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
