Cleveland County is Hiring a MAINTENANCE TECH I Near Shelby, NC

Performs semiskilled and skilled task involving the maintenance, construction and repair of the Foothills Public Shooting Complex's buildings and grounds, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Range Director and the Executive Range Officer. The normal work schedule Tuesday through Saturday 9:00AM-5:30PM.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Mows grass, cut weeds, rakes, and cleans up leaves, bags debris and hauls to landfill, prunes trees and shrubs, and plants flowers.
Cleans Range Houses and Training Center, and stock supplies in all Foothills Public Shooting Complex facilities and clay machines.
Removes and disposes of trash from all buildings and takes to landfill.
Performs basic carpentry work and paints a variety of surfaces.
Makes minor repairs to bath facilities, commodes, lavatories, faucets, and repairs minor leaks.
Changes light bulbs.
Assists with Archery Range Targets and repairs.
Assists with Steel Target maintenance and repairs as needed.
Other duties as assigned by Range Director or Executive Range Officer.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the assigned trades. Thorough knowledge of safety regulations, occupational hazards and related safety precautions in the work. Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of building trades. Working knowledge of grounds maintenance and of techniques of assigned area of work. Ability to use large equipment-Tractors, Skid Steer, Zero Turn Mower, etc. Skill in the use and care of assigned tools and equipment. Ability to diagnose and repair problems and plan and organize appropriate corrective action. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to exercise independent initiative. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the general public.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED and 1-3 years of technical or trade skills experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of gun safety a plus. Knowledge or archery ranges a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to physically perform the basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing.
Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently; and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess visual acuity to operate machines such as drills and power saws, to perform skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature, and to keep and maintain various records.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid driver's license.
Must obtain NRA Range Safety Officer Certification within six months.
