Brief Summary of Position Purpose:

The Material Handler at Cleaveland/Price plays a pivotal role in the efficient operation of our manufacturing facility. Responsible for managing the flow of materials throughout various stages of production, the Material Handler ensures that raw materials are accurately received, stored, and distributed to meet production schedules. This role involves utilizing forklifts and other equipment to safely transport materials, as well as maintaining accurate inventory records and conducting regular cycle counts. The Material Handler collaborates closely with production teams to fulfill material requirements, while also adhering to safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Essential Functions:

  • Checks incoming deliveries to make sure all ordered material meets quality standards.
  • Loads and unloads packages and other deliveries.
  • Organizes stock in the most efficient way using forklifts, pallets, cranes, etc.
  • Counts parts and materials, verifies count against receiving documents, and resolves discrepancies.
  • Stores parts in their proper storage locations and pulls materials to fulfill orders properly.
  • Moves materials to and from loading docks, delivery trucks, storage areas, and manufacturing areas.
  • Operates trucks, forklifts, cranes, and other equipment to move freight.
  • Prepares finished products for shipment by identifying their location, then pulling, packing, and loading them.
  • Documents orders, materials and any stock movements within an inventory record system.
  • Work may focus on internal operations, external operations, or both, depending on skill and ability.
  • Internal operations include staging, sorting and/or storing inspected parts, preparing parts for travel to an external vendor, and/or receiving parts.
  • External operations include the coordination of trucking logistics and requires the use of independent decision-making and math/physics skills to determine balance of weight for shipments.
  • Ensures work practices are compliant with all OSHA and ISO standards.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification to operate a forklift, crane and other equipment requiring training or certification.
  • Ability to demonstrate required proficiency level/competency to successfully perform job.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in operating forklifts and other material handling equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety protocols and practices.

Ability to accurately receive, inspect, and store incoming materials, ensuring proper identification and organization within the warehouse or storage areas.

Familiarity with inventory management systems and the ability to maintain accurate records of material transactions, including regular cycle counts and reconciliations.

Excellent organizational skills, with the capability to prioritize tasks effectively and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective collaboration with production teams to fulfill material requirements and support production schedules.

Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, orderly workspace, adhering to company policies and procedures for housekeeping and safety.

Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and production demands, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also being a team player who contributes to a positive work environment and promotes a culture of safety and excellence.

Demonstrated proficiency with the following equipment/tools:

  • Capability and ready willingness to use various utility lifting machines such as Wave carts, forklifts, cherry pickers etc.

Credentials, certifications & Industry Specific Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior material handler experience or warehouse logistics experience preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate required proficiency level/competency to successfully perform job.

Physical Requirements

The Material Handler position at Cleaveland/Price's manufacturing plant entails meeting specific physical demands while performing job responsibilities. These requirements include constant sitting or standing, walking, reaching, stretching, and use of hands, wrists and forearms. Frequently this job will require team members to lift, grasp, push, and pull objects up to 35lbs without assistance. Occasionally, team members will be required to twist and bend, crawl and kneel, as well climb and balance to reasonable heights during operations of their positions. This position will work in a machine shop environment where exposure to noise, fumes, and dust is possible. The role may also involve exposure to various metals and chemicals. Employees should be prepared to wear PPE as needed, in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.

Physical Requirements

Standard personal protective equipment (PPE) required while on the shop floor or in other work area where mandated (i.e. steel- toed shoes, safety glasses, and/or other applicable PPE).
