Energetics is seeking a Chemical Industry Expert to work with our team in supporting the Department of Energy’s Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) Energy- and Emissions-Intensive Industries (EEII) program. Upcoming Chemicals Program activities will include strategic planning, analysis, technical advising, and research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) program and Manufacturing USA Institute support. Strong candidates for this position will have a science and/or engineering degree and research or manufacturing experience.

The Chemical Industry Technical Consultant will work in a highly collaborative atmosphere, interacting directly with government program managers.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support EEII program planning and management of the chemicals RD&D portfolio.
  • Conduct technical merit reviews and provide technical support for RD&D project management and Manufacturing USA Institute program management activities.
  • Research, write and review reports, talking points, articles, briefings, and presentations on subjects related to the chemicals industry.
  • Participate, network, and help coordinate stakeholder engagements, workshops, and discussion with experts in the field.
  • Advise on industry-relevant opportunities for decarbonization technologies and processes within the chemicals sectors.
  • Work closely with program managers and co-workers in a fast-paced collaborative team environment (diligent and responsive contributor).
  • Provide connectivity to other research areas and offices through cross-cutting activities.
  • Occasional travel to participate in technical conferences and interact with the technical community.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D. in engineering or physicals science.
  • 0-5 years of experience in the chemicals or related industries. Candidates with greater years of experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in a research or industrial/manufacturing setting, varied experience welcome, with a strong understanding of chemistry and chemical engineering concepts and language.
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and verbal communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on interdisciplinary teams as well as with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Interest in manufacturing energy efficiency, decarbonization, and/or clean energy technologies.
  • Demonstrated independent and collaborative problem-solving skills.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Chemical engineer with experience in process scale-up and process development.
  • Technical publications in the field of manufacturing or clean energy technologies.
  • Located in the Delaware, Maryland, Virginia (DMV) area.
  • Strong ability/interest in making connections and building collaborations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
