As a Robot Programmer - in our Troy, Michigan branch, you will be responsible for programming complex robotics systems such as Kuka, ABB, Fanuc, and Kawasaki, by writing software, building electronics, and designing mechanisms. This is a technical hands-on position that involves setting-up/programming the robots on a shop floor, integrating them into a production facility, and providing automation support when completed. We are looking for motivated, self-starting, and technically-minded candidates to apply as Robot Programmers.

What Would a Typical Day Look Like?

  • Provide expertise in the early stages of the project life cycle in order to provide technical guidance
  • Develop robot programs using teach pendants of the major robot brands
  • Download a complete offline robot program
  • Configure Robot Controller Simulation (RCS) in the simulation software
  • Operate with Siemens packages (Robcad, Process Simulate)
  • Operate with Robot brand-specific software (ABB RobotStudio, Kuka WorkVisual, etc.)
  • Validate solutions and processes with detailed simulation
  • Validate the cycle feasibility defined in the cycle diagrams
  • Optimize weld distribution to improve the cycle time
  • Generate a precise evaluation of the cycle time through a detailed cycle simulation
  • Generate robot safety configurations. Ensure compliance with safety and ergonomics regulations
  • Develop robot signal logic with Software and Virtual Commissioning team
  • Support the Virtual Commissioning team during debug phase
  • Support the site team during the commissioning phase
  • Customer support and specification analysis
  • Design reviews with customers
  • Design reviews with Project Engineer and project team
  • Manage Industrial processes and robotic applications for automation projects
  • Library maintenance, simulation models (Robot / Fittings / External axes/tool changers/slides/dressing....)
  • Knowledge sharing
  • Continuous skill improvement and learning new working methods
  • Support Robotics R&D and analysis of new robot controller versions
  • Support the System Standard department for the standardization of working methods and processes
  • Main interfaces: Automation Systems teams, customers, and Site teams

What Qualifies You for this Opportunity?

  • An Engineering Degree or Technology Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related program preferred.
  • 5-7 years experience in the Automation industry as an Engineer, Technologist, and/or project manager, technically delivering on projects.
  • Experience with at least two major robot brands (ABB, Kuka, Fanuc, Kawasaki, etc...) is preferred.
  • Experience in the robotic simulation field in at least one of the following systems: RobCad, Process Simulate.
  • Integration background is highly preferred.
  • Body/White and welding experience preferred.
  • GM Robot Certification (GRS)

  • Vision experience is preferred

  • Fanuc R -30iB and/ or R30iB Plus programming experience
  • Amazing interpersonal skills within a multi-disciplinary team and diverse customers
  • Experience with Microsoft programs such as Excel and PowerPoint
  • Works well with a variety of different people from diverse backgrounds
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written
  • Motivated and passionate about working with people and overcoming challenges through collaboration and a win-win paradigm.
  • The ability to travel approximately 30% within the US.
  • Duration of Travel – 2-3 weeks at any given time
  • An ability to work weekends during non-production times for our customers
  • Reliable transportation and an ability to travel; Robot Programmer at Classic should have the ability to travel within the US and Canada

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required for the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds
