Classic City Arborists is Hiring a Tree Service Technician Near Athens, GA

Job Title: Tree Service Technician

Company: Classic City Arborists (CCA) is a small, family-owned and family-run company based out of Watkinsville, Georgia. We serve Oconee and Clarke Counties, as well as the surrounding area, and perform tree removals, pruning, brush clearing, mulching, and other tree-related services.

Pay: Starting pay ranges from $16 to $22/hour depending on experience and skill level. Trial period runs for 10 work days (2 weeks if you work Monday - Friday). Raises are available based on performance after trial period.

Job Description:

Our Tree Service Technicians do a variety of tasks throughout any given workday (see below). We expect team members to work together, follow instructions as given, and take initiative to get things done.

Team members arrive at our woodlot in Oconee County at 7:30am on workdays. From there, you’ll drive a work vehicle to the day’s job site or sites. Once work is completed, you’ll return the work truck to the woodlot and pick up your vehicle (usually by around 4pm).

Usual work days are Monday through Friday. We are hoping to hire full-time, but are willing to accommodate a part-time schedule for the right person if you’re only able to work a few days a week as opposed to all five.

We’re Looking For Someone Who Is:

  • Self-Motivated – you come to work with a "let’s get this done, and done right" attitude
  • Collaborative – you like working with a team, and as a team. You can take the feedback to improve, and are willing to speak up yourself if you see something that can be improved
  • Adaptable – you think on your feet and can be flexible and go with the flow if the plan suddenly changes
  • Open-Minded – you’re open to new ideas, constructive suggestions and improvements, and willing to both listen and observe as well as do
  • An Outdoorsman – you love being outside, and enjoy various types of weather. You aren’t afraid to get dirty and like a little adventure in your job

Expectations:

- Drive work truck to and from job sites (valid Driver’s License with clean driving history required)

  • Maintain work truck cleanliness and keep equipment orderly
  • Service vehicle as needed (change oil, fill with gas, etc) and report any repairs needed immediately (all maintenance done on-the-clock)
  • All costs associated with vehicle maintenance are covered by the company

- Complete tasks as directed, but be ready to take initiative to get things done when needed

  • Collaborate with team members to solve problems and ensure all aspects of a job are completed
  • Feed brush, limbs, and other debris to the chipper
  • Prune high limbs from the ground using a pole saw
  • Raking, leaf blowing, and generally cleaning up job sites
  • Set up rope lines, assist with rigging, return ropes to appropriate locations when no longer needed
  • Related work as assigned

- Assist other team members when needed

  • Be ready to help Arborist Climbers and Arborist Crew Leaders working on the ground and aloft
  • Be an extra pair of eyes for those driving, backing up, dumping woodchips, and parking
  • Help keep landing zones clear while anyone is operating out of the lift

- Operate heavy machinery, including but not limited to: Miniature Skid Steer, Chipper, Aerial Lift, etc

- Operate power equipment, including but not limited to: chainsaw, pole saw, hand saw, etc

  • Maintain equipment (fill chainsaws with oil and gas, sharpen teeth as needed, etc)
  • Keep track of all equipment and ensure everything goes back to its proper place at the end of the day

- Adhere to all safety policies and practices, both company and industry standard

  • Proper use of PPE
  • Proper use of equipment

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License (CDL not required)
  • Clean driving record
  • Must pass E-Verify
  • Must have bank account for direct deposit
  • Must be able to pass a drug test (random drug tests may be performed at employer’s discretion)
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical labor, walking 75-80% of the day, and frequent light lifting with occasional heavy lifting
  • Must be willing and able to work in all kinds of (reasonable) weather

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with operating chainsaws, pole saws, hand saws, etc
  • Comfortable driving large trucks/chipper trucks/other heavy machinery (forklift, etc)
  • Knowledge of rigging and knots
  • Prior experience operating out of a lift
  • Knowledge of proper pruning techniques
  • Prior experience with tree removal or other tree-related services

Attire/Equipment:

  • All team members must have the CCA logo displayed on their outermost layer. T-shirts (short and long-sleeved), jackets, and hoodies are provided at no charge
  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) – provided by company
  • Full-length pants (not provided, but reimbursement may be available if needed)
  • Closed-toe work shoes (not provided, but reimbursement may be available if needed)
