JOB TITLE: HL7 Interface Engineer

LOCATION: Hawthorne, NY (on-site)

TYPE: Full time, regular

COMPENSATION: $100,000 - $130,000/yr

Role Summary:

The HL7 Interface Engineer will lead the technical initiation, maintenance, integration documentation, and modification of system interfaces. The position will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including software developers, project managers, and healthcare professionals, to ensure seamless data exchange between healthcare applications and systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting and resolving interface-related issues to ensure optimal performance and data integrity. We are looking for a team player who views medical device development as a competitive advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical implementation of HIE (Health Information Exchange) and system interfaces using Mirth tool
  • Design and implement the integration of Health Information Exchange data integration
  • Convert business requirements and/or functional specifications into technical solutions and formulate technical design specifications
  • Leverage agile development methodology, incorporating user stories, continuous integration, and test-driven development
  • Collaborate closely with the architecture team to ensure alignment between the proposed solution and the direction of the system architecture
  • Collaborate with system analysts and interface engineers within the customer’s IT organization to gather requirements and define interface specifications
  • Facilitate and lead detailed HL7 and FHIR interface mapping discussions with new & existing customers, and third party system vendors
  • Conduct testing and validation of interfaces to ensure compatibility and accuracy of data exchange
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and support for HL7 interfaces, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
  • Perform periodic updates and enhancements to interfaces based on changing business requirements or technology updates
  • Document interface specifications, configurations, and workflows for reference and future maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare industry standards and regulations related to data privacy and security (ex: HIPAA)
  • Conduct training sessions for end-users and IT staff on using and managing HL7 interfaces effectively
  • Share expertise and best practices with team members to promote continuous learning and improvement

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred
  • 5 years of HL7 interface analysis, development, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • 5 years of technical customer service experience and interaction with healthcare IT vendors and hospital IT staff on technical issues
  • Proficiency in HL7 standards (V2.6 , 3x, FHIR) and experience with HL7 interface engines (ex: Mirth, Connect, Rhapsody)
  • Strong understanding of healthcare information systems and interoperability requirements
  • Strong comprehension of Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and network data communications
  • Experience with LIS (Laboratory Information System) applications, hospital and/or pathology/oncology systems such as EPIC, Cerner, MetaTech, Orchard Soft, SunQuest, and Soft Computer
  • Expertise building real-time interfaces for ADT, ORM, ORU, DFT, SIU transaction types
  • Experience with healthcare data formats (ex: DICOM, CDA) and protocols (ex: TCP/IP, HTTP, SOAP, FTP, SFTP)
  • Proficiency conducting Unit testing, System testing, Integrated testing, Regression testing, and providing support for User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Familiarity with the change management procedures involved in interface implementation
  • Solid experience in customer onboarding and maintenance, particularly with large-scale customers featuring multiple workflow configurations
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot interface-related issues
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
