GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Outreach Worker/Community Educator is responsible for providing HIV prevention services within the context of the HIV Prevention Program. The Outreach/Community Educator will facilitate group presentations using the evidence-based interventions, conduct counseling, testing and referral, community outreach, and other services in target communities. This position is responsible for identifying sites to conduct groups, preparing outreach schedule, monthly reports, and entering data. This is a full time position that reports to the program coordinator.

RESPONSIBLITIES

• Conduct the Fundamental of HIV Testing and Prevention Counseling using the
• OraQuick® HIV-1 Antibody Test
• Conduct group and community level interventions activities in assigned areas, according to the monthly schedule and program policies and procedures,
• Develop a strategy to involve all segments of the target community in various outreach activities according to programs,
• Compile and submit data report of community outreach activities in a timely manner,
• Document program activities
• Compile, prepare and submit outreach schedule and reports to supervisor on a timely manner basis,
• Plan and schedule community events in assigned areas according to program guidelines,
• Attend appropriate community resource meetings,
• Perform other assigned duties in a timely and efficient matter,
• Attend appropriate training as they come available,
• Compile, prepare and submit quarterly reports in a timely manner,
• Identify community locations where community level intervention will be conducted,
• Assist in developing promotional strategies that will increase awareness of services within the community,
• Monitor literature and condom supplies and order additional supplies as needed,
• Prepare literature and other materials for dissemination during outreach,

Hours: Normal working hours are 9:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M. However, flexibility is required to accommodate evenings, late nights and weekend program activities.

Qualifications

The following requirements are desired for this position:

• Undergraduate degree in social or behavioral sciences
• Two years successful experience conducting HIV street/community outreach and presentation activities,
• One year experience performing the OraQuick Rapid HIV-1 Antibody Test
• Thorough knowledge of the target areas, including resources, culture and overall environment,
• Current valid drivers license and daily access to a vehicle during work hours,
• Successful completion of required HIV prevention course as outlined by local, state, and federal government,
• Certification in the OraQuick Rapid HIV-1 Antibody Test
• Outstanding organizational, verbal and written communication skills,
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse community groups,
• Proficient in using Microsoft Word and Excel
