Position Details:

  • Compensation for this position is in the $50,000 to $55,000 range.
  • The anticipated start for this position is July 1, 2024.
  • This position is hybrid: At least 3 days/week in-person in the Philadelphia office or school-house visits to observe and support learning and training.

The Learning and Development Manager (LDM) oversees the successful execution of the Student Success Coach (SSC) Learning and Development strategy by coordinating the scheduling and implementation of site learning activities. Successful execution of the strategy will equip ~150 18-25 year old ACMs (i.e. Student Success Coaches or SSCs) with the necessary tools for delivering high quality service and interventions in our schools. The LDM will provide SSCss with support from their initial onboarding process and throughout their tenure. This will include leading a continuous civic leadership reflection process and managing activities to support and enhance LACY (leadership after City Year). The LDM will work under the direction of the Senior Director, Learning and Instruction (SDLI) and will frequently coordinate with other Impact department staff (including director and executive level staff), to ensure that SSCs have a positive and meaningful learning and development experience.

Responsibilities

Manage Learning and Development (L&D) Calendar Execution and Logistics – 45%

  • Oversee planning and logistics for learning sessions and special learning events, including Service-Learning Institute, a 3-week summer training series designed to launch the SSC service year introducing them to their service and experience with City Year; Mid-Year Summit (3 days); Learning & Development days (LDDs), and training for Mid-Year ACMs
  • Collaborate with internal staff and external partners to deliver properly sequenced and reviewed training sessions
  • Secure internal or external training space
  • Ensure proper training space set-up and break-down
  • Ensure materials and supplies are in the right place at right time
  • Manage contract execution and payments; oversee use of department procurement card
  • Oversee learning and development logistics and yearlong scope and sequence for Senior and Second Year ACMs, two cohorts of ACMs returning for a second year of service
  • Identify, build, and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. trainers, venues) in the Philadelphia area who will support the L&D program and provide high quality learning opportunities to ACMs
  • Maintain the database of site learning information (e.g. trainers, venues, evaluations, best practices)
  • Support the overall execution of the site learning team strategy through additional activities as needed
  • Create and maintain systems to manage the Impact procurement cards, purchasing of event supplies, and contracts and invoices from partners
  • Oversee supply management and inventory
  • Support L&D and instruction yearlong budgeting process

Lead Content Management, Communication, and L&D Compliance – 25%

  • Ensure learning content is posted and available to audiences; manage archived content
  • Manage permissions and updates of all posted learning content
  • Develop and implement a communication plan that aligns with the learning calendar and provides learning and development updates to the site
  • Oversee the process for completing L&D compliance trainings and certifications such as CPR, Mandated Reporting, Positive Workplace, Student Data Privacy, etc.
  • Maintain inventory of afterschool programming curriculum
  • Research and coordinate educational and learning opportunities for the corps
  • Create and update SSC calendar for tracking blackout dates and key site holidays
  • Curate content for and send weekly corps newsletter to ensure alignment of information and access to resources

Impact Department Learning Loop – 20%

  • Lead a multi-year cycle to enhance the evaluation of the Learning and Development program to ensure that it meets the needs of SSCs, partners, and program staff
  • Organize and support the presentation of information (e.g. training evaluations) to inform learning loop process
  • Organize the sharing and application of insights from the learning loop
  • Support site participation in Headquarters-led learning; gather and share feedback
  • Seek out, document, and share promising practices in learning

Organizational Initiatives and Site Support – 10%

  • Engage in structured discussion and training on diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging aimed at developing stronger cultural competency, both individually and collectively as a site
  • Partner with City Year Philadelphia’s departments and staff to ensure that site-wide goals are met, including, but not limited to, the AmeriCorps member applicant interview process, stakeholder engagement, event and service day participation, and cross-departmental committees.
  • Attend overnight conferences as needed
  • Participate in relevant network-wide meetings and calls; provide insight, feedback, and collective problem solving
  • Support school teams directly through quarterly visits
  • Take part in bi-monthly national L&D calls to further cross-site relationships and innovate our work
  • Support in training (i.e. Academic Academy, SLI, Mid Year Summit) as a facilitator, feedback loop creator, and content manager
  • Participate in site-wide events throughout the year, including Back to School Block Party, MLK Day, Red Jacket Gala, and Graduation
  • Additional responsibilities as needed, including department or site-wide special projects

Skills, Knowledge, And Experiences

  • 2 years project management and/or event planning experience
  • 1 year leading, coaching, and/or training young adults ages 18-25
  • High school degree or GED required
  • Knowledge of large urban education systems serving predominantly Black students and communities, experience working in a school setting a plus
  • Efficient time management skills; ability to manage multiple highly detailed projects and tasks simultaneously and to think critically
  • Experience developing and executing professional development and engagement activities for young adults, volunteers, and/or peers
  • Strong ability/initiative to work independently and collaborate/communicate with folks with diverse needs, expectations, and perspectives, including those not in direct line of authority
  • Awareness of, commitment to, and experience with promising workplace practices grounded in diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity (DBIE)

  • City Year and/or AmeriCorps experience, a plus but not required
