City Park Conservancy is Hiring a Police Sergeant Near Orleans, LA

Summary: The Police Sergeant supervises the performance of police personnel under his/her command as assigned by the Chief of Police. The Sergeant will also be responsible for overseeing, organizing, training, and directing the activities of assigned law enforcement personnel by ensuring the security of park patrons, staff, and property by patrolling park grounds and investigating reported incidents within the park.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned

  • Review reports submitted by rank-and-file officers in accordance with departmental policy and submit to Police Chief for approval
  • Determine staff and training needs.
  • Direct and coordinate daily activities and officer scheduling
  • Coordinate activities with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Responsible for submitting department purchase orders and fleet management
  • Attend weekly NOPD COMSTAT meeting for NOPD 3rd District and advise the Chief of Police on any pertinent information discussed.
  • Conduct security inspections of all buildings and gates; generate a report of the finding for the Chief of Police
  • Maintain departments key inventory and key legend in order to secure buildings during routine inspections, opening and locking procedures
  • Manage the alarm building alarm code assignments of access as well as the repair and maintenance
  • Coordinate staffing needs for intra-Park Police details with other Park Departments; maintains records of shifts assigned in accordance with Park policy ensure fair and equitable assignment
  • Assist Chief of Police in developing and maintaining best in class policies and procedures for the Park’s police department including but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures, Electronic Report writing, Policy & Training manuals.
  • Protect park visitors by enforcing federal, state and local laws and park rules and regulations.
  • Oversee the field training program (on boarding) for new officers ensuring training is to department standards, evaluation process and desired outcome of the candidates is followed
  • Testify in court and cooperate with local law enforcement agencies and district attorneys in the arrest and prosecution of individuals.
  • Prepare and maintain officer activity stats; generate stat report for the Chief of Police.Work special events within New Orleans City Park, as needed.

qualifications and education requirements:

  • Five years of experience in law enforcement work
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • Evidence of POST Level 1 certification must be submitted at the time of the application.
  • Required to qualify annually with a firearm.
  • Must be eligible for bond
  • Possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License
  • Willing to work nights, weekends and over night shifts as determined by Chief of Police
  • Experience writing reports and utilizing law enforcement agency software such as Electronic Reporting Program and databases such as NCIC
  • Possess competency in Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assisted by the Chief of Police
  • Attend management meetings as designated by the Chief of Police


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Chief of Police in the supervision of the staff of the Police department.
  • Caries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recommending rewards and disciplinary actions when appropriate; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
