The purpose of this position is to maintain the vehicles and mechanical equipment of the fleet and various departments. This is accomplished by repairing cars and trucks; maintaining snow equipment, mowers and weed eaters, fixing plows, spreaders, and hydraulics; putting snow chains on cars and trucks; setting up appointments for vehicle service; filling out work orders. Other duties include working on street sweepers; keeping the shop organized; answering phones; providing customer service; ordering parts and supplies.

Repairs vehicles in the fleet by changing oil; replacing light bulbs; repairing electrical problems; fixing flat tires; checking engines and batteries for problems; replacing dysfunctional alternators, suspension parts, brakes, exhausts, etc.
Running emissions tests; checking warranty; pick up parts for repair; maintain fuel fill up pots and after-hours oil cabinet and air hose.
Performs administrative duties by answering phones; ordering parts and supplies for the shop; making appointments; assisting walk ins; maintaining and cleaning shop; other duties as assigned.

• Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, equipment and tools of the automotive mechanic trade.
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
• Knowledge of the operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repair of heavy and light trucks and other equipment.
• Skill in the use and operation of tools and machinery used in mechanical repair work.
• Skills in locating and adjusting defects in motor equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems..

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
• Considerable experience in diesel engines and equipment.
• Considerable experience in the automotive mechanical trade.
• Must pass a background check, Drug Test and provide PA Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
