JOB
The purpose of this assignment is to perform technical duties in the maintenance, fabrication, and installation of traffic and street signs. Successful performance contributes to the safe and efficient flow of traffic.The work consists of varied related technical duties in the fabrication, maintenance, and installation of traffic and street signs, pavement markings, and other traffic control devices. Heavy traffic and inclement weather contribute to the complexity of the work.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Major DutiesFabricates and maintains traffic and street signs, barricades, and other traffic devices; maintains city street markings; maintains city parking lots.Performs general maintenance on department equipment.Installs traffic and street signs, pavement markings, and other traffic control devices.Clears sight obstruction and city right-of-way obstructions; trims limbs and bushes.Assists all departments in setting traffic controls for detours, lane closures, and street closures.Stocks traffic inventory upon delivery, including sign and pavement marking materials.Sets up speed trailers and traffic counters for traffic control data.Places zoning and special event signs.Performs other related duties as assigned.GuidelinesGuidelines include relevant state and federal laws, city codes and ordinances, city and department policies and procedures, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, the Standard Highway Manual, and written work orders. The work is typically performed in a stockroom, warehouse, or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather, while standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking..The employee may be exposed to much noise and dust and to machinery with moving parts.The work requires the use of protective devices such as gloves and goggles.The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must distinguish between shades of color.
