The City of West Plains, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Solid Waste Driver for the Utilities Department. This is a full-time, non-exempt position consisting of 40 hours per week. The ideal candidate regularly demonstrates our values of teamwork, commitment, learning, integrity, customer service and initiative while responsible for the safe operation of a sanitation truck and ancillary equipment to collect refuse or recyclables on an assigned route of residential and commercial customers and delivers materials to designated disposal/management area. Performs duties during times of inclement weather and/or weather-related emergencies. The driver is responsible for the safe and proper operation, pre/post inspections, fueling, and minor maintenance of collection vehicles and recycling equipment. The candidate will be expected to safely perform tasks with speed and efficiency while adhering to local, state, and federal regulations.
This can be a physically strenuous position while working outdoors, exposed to extreme and/or adverse temperatures and weather conditions requiring heavy work exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly. Involves walking, sitting, standing, climbing, stooping crawling, kneeling, stretching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling on even or uneven surfaces on a continuous basis required. Must have sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may occasionally be moderate to loud. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, and critical thinking. Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle on a daily basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
