City of Watauga is Hiring a Fleet Shop Attendant Near Watauga, TX

Under supervision from the Fleet Supervisor, determines and communicates the needed repairs for fleet vehicles and equipment to maintain maximum equipment life and minimal downtime. Coordinates, prioritizes, and schedules fleet repairs and informs customers of the progress of the work. Monitors the parts inventory and performs multiple different preventative maintenance programs and minor repairs along with billing and work order processing.

Examples Of Essential Duties:

  • Interacts with customer/driver to properly determine the nature of complaint and documents information about recommended services performed.
  • Performs inspections, preventative maintenance, and/or minor repairs to vehicles and equipment to ensure all are maintained in a safe and operational condition.
  • Utilizes Fleet Software to create, update, and close out Work Orders.
  • Orders necessary parts as needed and monitor’s inventory.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly Fleet Shop.
  • Confirms the accuracy of the repair order and obtain repair/service authorization.
  • Maintains schedule of repairs with the customer/vendor and establish completion expectations.
  • Demonstrates professional communication skills.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required.
  • May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.

Works under general supervision of Fleet and Facilities Supervisor.

Typical Qualifications:

High School Diploma or G.E.D. Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record. Class A Commercial Drivers’ License preferred to be obtained within six (6) months of employment.

Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Work Environment
60% of work in an office environment and 40% in fleet shop. Continuous outdoor and indoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards, occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying up to 100 pounds, lifting up to 100 pounds. Outside construction and machinery activities performed under normal field operations. Exposed to seasonal temperatures while operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment. Possibility of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, materials and inclement weather while in the field.

Supplemental Information:

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of the automotive mechanic trade.
  • Knowledge of equipment and vehicles used throughout the City.
  • Knowledge of city practice, policy, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and process work orders.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform the manual labor associated with mechanical repair work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other city employees and the public.
  • Ability to use small office equipment such as copy machines.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Skill in using computers and related software.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials used in the maintenance and repair of automotive and related equipment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.07 - $18.84 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
