City of Venice Florida is Hiring an Engineering Stormwater Tech I or II Near Venice, FL

Description

Starting salary to commence at $49,624 - $53,159 based upon experience and certifications held.

General Statement of Job

Monitors City of Venice engineering projects for satisfactory to verify compliance with best management practices, project completion and cost effectiveness with an emphasis on stormwater management.

City Expectations:
Certain essential city services are required to be maintained in any civil emergency. Depending upon the type of emergency, any and all employees may be activated as essential employees in the event of an emergency.

Duties & Responsibilities

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Level I (Grade 127)

  • Conducts field supervision of capital improvements, evaluation of shop drawings, contract documents and technical specifications. Approves requests for payment after verifying work is complete as invoiced.
2. Inspects private developments for compliance with Engineering Department permit requirements, city standard detail requirements, construction methods, and technical specifications. Coordinates completion of required testing and agency requirements.
3. Assists City Engineer with plan review for Technical Review Committee and Construction Plan Review submittals to verify compliance with City Codes and
engineering requirements.
4. Technical review of contract specifications and acceptable construction standards.
5. Identifies and resolves engineering issues related to assigned projects.
6. Conducts field inspections and prepares inspection reports for compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit compliance.
7. Receives and responds to requests from the public for assistance, resolves complaints and recommends necessary corrective action as required.
8. Accurately and legibly completes and maintains records, reports, forms, and other required documentation. Coordinates and assembles data for presentations.
9. Coordinates with the Marketing and Communications Officer to disseminate information to advise the public or other agencies of construction activity which may result in the interruption of service or other inconveniences.
10. Responsible for staying current with all governing regulations and compliance requirements.
11. Safely and efficiently drives and operates city vehicles as required.
12. Review and issue right-of-way and license agreement permitting and inspections.

Level II (Grade 129)
  • In addition to all functions performed at Level I, an Engineering Stormwater Technician II:
2. May advise the Engineering Stormwater Technician I.
3. Approves orders for equipment, materials and supplies. Processes invoices according to City policies and procedures.
4. Coordinates field inspection schedule with Engineering Stormwater Technician I.
5. Oversees right-of-way and license agreement permitting and inspections.


Responsibilities
:

Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of work assignments following established safety practices. Responsible in work to the City Engineer or designee.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education and Training

Level I (127)
  • High school graduate/GED is required. An Associates Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in stormwater or utility inspections and/or infrastructure construction.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Stormwater Inspector certification within one (1) year from date of hire. Required to maintain certification.
  • Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) field inspection experience preferred.

Level II (Grade 129)
  • Vacant position authorized in the department budget.
  • Five (5) years' experience in stormwater or utility inspections and/or infrastructure construction.
  • Possess and maintain Stormwater Inspector certification.
  • Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) field inspection experience required.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Skill Requirements:

Knowledge of current engineering principles applicable to utilities and stormwater construction projects. Ability to work independently of direct supervision and capable of sustaining regular and predictable attendance. Must be able to communicate effectively; read and comprehend written directions and complete all forms and reports legibly and accurately. Ability to identify, analyze and resolve issues relating to assigned projects; review construction plans and apply technical specifications. Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions connected with this type of work. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, project representatives and the general public. Possess a valid Florida Driver’s license, free of any serious violations.
Requires a working knowledge of the current version of the Microsoft Office Professional software suite including proficiency with Word and Excel. Must have a basic understanding of the current version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Familiarity with CentralSquare Software applications based on an iSeries system, electronic permitting, computer-aided drafting (CAD) skills and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are preferred. Working knowledge of the current versions of Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer is also highly recommended. Ability to timely and accurately enter data. Ability to learn specific computer applications used in the Engineering Department.


Physical Requirements
:

Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, stoop, and lift. Ability to walk on rough ground (sand, woods, overgrown areas), enter trenches and work both indoors and outdoors. Must have good eyesight with or without aides. Reasonable accommodation will be considered for individuals with physical disabilities.
