City of Tomball is Hiring a Construction Inspector Near Tomball, TX

The City of Tomball is accepting applications for the position of Construction Inspector. This position is responsible for overseeing the compliance of public improvement construction relating to streets, utilities, sidewalks, and drainage systems. Involves ensuring all construction activities within city right-of-ways and certain private improvements adhere to local, state, and federal standards. As a representative for Engineering and Construction Management, the Construction Inspector reviews project construction against stipulated quality benchmarks, ensuring projects align with plans, specifications, and other associated documents.
Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
Education HS_GED
Experience Minimum of 3 years previous relevant work experience is required.
Certifications
Licensing Drivers License, Class C License for water and wastewater
Construction Inspector functions include but are not limited to the following.
  • Preparation for Construction Projects: Review plans, specifications, city codes, and permits for assigned projects. Attend pre-construction conferences to discuss project notes with stakeholders.
  • Construction Inspections: Ensure project items are constructed to city standards and contract agreements. Notify contractors of deficiencies and ensure rectification. Review project records and reports, including DWR, RFI, CO, SWPPP, and others. Inspect equipment and project materials to ensure alignment with plan specifications. Field measure, calculate, and record installed contract items for pay estimates.
  • Project Closeout: Oversee project closeout procedures, including inspections, as-built plans, and deficiency resolutions.
  • Safety and Environmental Compliance: Ensure public and personnel safety in line with The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and OSHA. Ensure project compliance with environmental standards, including TPDES Permits and TCEQ requirements. Oversee SWPPP/BMP reports and manage corrective actions with contractors. Report halted infractions of city ordinances to city code enforcement.
  • Customer Service: Respond to inquiries from other departments, the public, and contractors on topics like zoning, permits, and city ordinance compliance. Maintain professional relationships with contractor personnel and disseminate public service information.
  • Continuous Improvement: Mentor and train employees in inspection procedures and material specifications. Attend and present at training sessions related to construction materials and processes.
  • Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
