City of Tomball is Hiring a City Planner Near Tomball, TX

The City of Tomball is accepting applications for the position of City Planner. This position serves as an intermediary between the public, developers, builders, engineers, governmental agencies, and local representatives, overseeing planning-related activities. Encompasses a range of planning functions, from current planning reviews and zoning ordinance modifications to advanced planning that might involve updates to the Comprehensive Plan and similar long range planning efforts. Manages projects related to development and land use applications, ensuring they adhere to city ordinances. Instrumental in crafting and administering the city's Zoning & Subdivision ordinances. Prepares and presents in-depth technical reviews on development proposals and provides essential guidance to Boards, Commissions, and the City Council.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.


Education Bachelor (Related Field)

Experience Minimum of 4 years previous relevant work experience is required.

Certifications AICP (Preferred), CNU-A (Preferred)

Licensing Driver's License

City Planner functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Intermediary Role: Act as a bridge between the public, developers, builders, governmental agencies, and local representatives for all planning-related matters. Collaborate with consultants and departmental representatives, deliberating project requirements.
  • Guidance and Recommendations: Offer essential advice, direction, and recommendations to Boards, Commissions, and the City Council on matters concerning Planning and Development.
  • Research and Data Collection: Conduct research and gather data regarding requests for rezoning, variances, special exceptions to the code of ordinance, and city code amendments. Compose legal descriptions for newspaper publications detailing the nature of requests and draft notification letters to property owners surrounding the subject property. Create maps and comprehensive staff reports based on research, presenting findings and recommendations to Boards, Commissions, and the City Council. Design and deliver PowerPoint presentations, detailing research outcomes and offering recommendations (approval/denial) regarding specific requests. Update and create long-range planning documents such as the City's Comprehensive Plan and similar long range and/or small area plans.
  • Development Plan Review: Examine all site development plans for conformity with the City's code of ordinances. Communicate and rectify plan deficiencies to ensure they align with City ordinances before the issuance of final approvals and permits.
  • Code Enforcement: Aid the code enforcement department in pinpointing code violations, penning notices of violations, and processing citations.
  • Pre-submission Consultations: Engage with potential site developers, discussing prerequisites and stipulations for their developments before the official city review.
  • Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

SALARY:

Hiring Range: $75,088 - $78,853

Salary Range: $75,088 - $112,632

***Starting salary is dependent on experience and qualifications.
