Position Summary

Under supervision of the City Assessor, the Appraiser Aide is an integral support staff position that assists with in-office work needed to complete the appraisal process in a timely and accurate manner. The Appraiser Aide also is principally responsible for fielding assessment inquiries from residents and businesses through all communication channels, including in-person meetings at the Office of Assessing counter. The appraiser aide must possess a thorough understanding of the assessment process and an ability to effectively communicate technical subject matter to the general public.

The Appraiser Aide assists Office of Assessing appraisers with all of the in-office work needed to complete the appraisal of property and place the proper assessed value on the tax rolls. The position is also responsible for answering questions regarding taxes and explaining assessing forms and procedures to the general public.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school or GED equivalent.
• Must obtain the Michigan Certified Assessment Technician (MCAT) certification from the State of Michigan Tax Commission within six (6) months from date of hire.
• One-year professional experience working in an Assessing Office performing either assessing or administrative support duties is highly preferred.
