This is semi-skilled manual work participating in one of the following: the construction, maintenance and repair of municipal surface facilities including, but not limited to, streets, sidewalks, and curbs; performing landscaping and maintenance of city-owned property and a variety of medians and rights of way including in or near waterways, ditches, and lakes; or maintenance and repair of power tools and small equipment and may include some facilities repair and maintenance tasks. Work could include any one of the following: the operation of light-duty automotive equipment including using power tools and specialized machines to maintain streets, sidewalks, curbs, and other related work; the maintenance of grounds and turf through mowing, edging, trimming, and pruning of plants, trees, and shrubs; or reading manuals, blueprints, and schematics to determine repair needs for various equipment and skilled use of a variety of tools. An employee in this class performs heavy manual labor, occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
This applicant pool will be used to fill any current vacancies and per City rule, may also be used for six (6) months to fill Maintenance Worker II vacancies throughout the department. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.
