The City of South Lake Tahoe is recruiting for a Maintenance Technician Lead for our Streets department. This position will lead the snow operations group during the night shift and during the summer, will lead various crews for pavement rehab, signing and striping, and other street maintenance functions. The Lead Technician must have supervisor skills, understand traffic control systems, lead a team, and complete tasks as assigned.

Summary Description
Under direction of assigned supervisory or management staff, provides technical and functional supervision over assigned maintenance personnel in the maintenance of parks, City facilities, streets, and airport; performs skilled maintenance work in assigned area of responsibility.
Identifying characteristics
The Lead Maintenance Technician is the advanced journey level maintenance class. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed and complexity of duties assigned. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility. Employees at this level exercise technical, functional or lead supervision over lower level positions; assuming lead responsibility over a crew on an on-going basis. In general, Lead Maintenance Technicians will be specifically assigned to an area within the Maintenance Operations such as Streets, Parks, Facilities.
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Education/Training:
Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Experience:
Two years full time experience as a Maintenance Technician V or six years of general maintenance and construction work in one or more of the following areas: parks, streets/storm drainage, facilities, snow removal; broad expertise in specialized areas such as electrical, HVAC.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California or Nevada Class B driver's license (commercial drivers' license subject to DOT drug testing requirements and DMV pull notice program).

Environment: Indoor work to perform record keeping and computer tasks; outdoor work in all types of weather including extreme heat and humidity, cold and rain and snow; work in and around heavy traffic conditions and very loud noise of construction equipment; continuous exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical shock, and vibration from equipment and tools; occasional exposure to hazardous materials and substances including chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and animal bites; positions may require working at heights above the ground, work below ground, and/or in confined spaces.
Physical: Incumbents in this class must be in good physical condition and able to exert physical strength for prolonged periods of time. Due to the physical nature of this position, the majority of tasks performed by incumbents involve a combination of two or more simultaneous physical operations requiring but not limited to the following:
CONTINUOUS: sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, fingering, and hearing; lifting and carrying of tools and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.; pushing/pulling of tools and equipment up to 25 lbs.
FREQUENT: balancing, crouching and talking; pushing/pulling of tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
OCCASIONAL: crawling, smelling; lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling of tools and equipment weighing up to 100 lbs.; lifting and carrying tools and equipment weighing over 100 lbs. with assistance.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to see work orders and service requests, field conditions, equipment dials and gauges; operate vehicles and equipment; monitor telephone traffic conditions and mix chemicals.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction; ability to monitor sounds for traffic control and equipment malfunction; hear back-up alarms on trucks and other equipment, telephone and radio transmissions, and calls for assistance from others.
Speaking: Communicate in English in person, by phone and radio to communicate with both the public and co-workers.
