City of Shreveport is Hiring a Research Assistant Near Shreveport, LA
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Research law, investigates facts, and prepares documents to assist lawyer. Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, conveyance, and mortgage records, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes to prepare legal documents, such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, wills, contracts, buy-sell agreements, closing papers and binders, deeds, and trust instruments for review, approval, and use by the attorney. Appraises and inventories real and personal property. Investigates facts and law of case to determine cause of action and to prepare case accordingly. Files pleading with court clerk. Prepares affidavits of documents and maintains document file. Delivers or directs delivery of subpoenas to witnesses and parties to action. May direct and coordinate activities of law office employees. May prepare office accounts. May specialize in litigation and real estate. May prepare real estate closing statement, liens, and foreclosures and assist in closing process. May act as arbitrator and liaison between disputing parties. May act as law librarian, keeping and monitoring legal volumes and ensuring legal volumes are up to date. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1). Must be able to obtain a Certified Paralegal Certificate from an accredited legal assistant school or paralegal institute within two years of employment. 2). Must have at least six (6) months to one (1) year experience in the area of real estate and litigation.
ADA COMPLIANCE:
Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Requires visual perception and discrimination. Requires ability to communicate orally. Job must be performed with or without accommodations. 2. Work Environment: Tasks are regularly performed in doors in an office environment. There is limited exposure to extreme weather conditions. May have normal exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise.Job Summary
