Perform general manual work for the Parks and Recreation Department and help plan, develop, and maintain recreational sites. Load dirt and construction materials. Dig and backfill ditches by hand. Work as a member of the park maintenance crew, operating power mowers and other park maintenance equipment. Maintain building operations maintenance policies, standard operating and safety procedures, goals, and objectives. Mows and maintains park and open space areas such as baseball and soccer fields; mows weeds; cleans and maintains tennis courts and nets. Maintains sprinkler systems and assists in the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads. Performs routine maintenance on lawn and power equipment. Performs simple repair work on park buildings and facilities and assist in equipment maintenance and repair. Clean grounds, ponds, swimming pools, paths, playground equipment, walk and maintains these areas. Ability to be work successfully in extreme hot and/or extreme cold temperatures; excessive humidity; slippery and uneven walking surfaces, excessive noise, and other extreme conditions such as noxious fumes, moving heavy machinery, etc. Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area, e.g., maintenance, lawncare, equipment operation, etc., plus 2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D DL before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position. Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance. Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. Ability to lift heavy objects, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs. Ability to maintain accurate records, type and enter data accurately. Ability to effectively communicate on a one-on-one basis with others. Ability to maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with other employees, department officials and the public. Ability to report to work each scheduled day, and on time.
