Ensure daily care of animals and the facility. Cleans the kennels and appropriate areas daily by washing and sanitizing floors and other areas as needed or directed. Cares for, feeds and houses animals at the animal shelter; ensures medications and vaccinations are given to animals in the shelter and is responsible for logging all medications; performs daily health checks and care for shelter animals. Works an assigned shift using own judgment in deciding course of action being expected to handle difficult and emergency situations with limited assistance. Performs general maintenance of the shelter including mowing, fence work and general repair and labor. Performs euthanasia when needed by the Department. Operates a motor vehicle while picking up supplies and deceased animals. Work the front desk which includes answering phones, greeting customers, processing adoptions, reclaims, relinquishments, entering data into computer system software, and any other tasks needed at the front when needed by the department. The availability for the position must be 7 days per week from 6am to 6pm, however you will have 2 days off back-to-back. Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.
High school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Either present a certificate of Training for Animal Euthanasia or successfully complete training offered by the Department of City of Sherwood within one year of hire. Must meet the requirements to receive a Euthanasia Technician Certificate for controlled substance registration from Arkansas Department of Health Pharmacy Services. Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position. Working knowledge of animal handling, restraint, and animal behavior. Have an understanding of disease control and prevention.
