City of San Juan Texas is Hiring a Head Recreation Coach Near San Juan, TX

HOURLY RATE:
$17.00JOB OBJECTIVES:
Under immediate supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Head Recreation Coach is responsible for coaching and coordinating specific summer sports programs. Prepare recurring reports and records, as well as organize daily workouts and makes proper travel plans for scheduled athletic events. Makes several decisions weekly requiring some interpretations and mature judgment. The position has daily contact with the employees and public which requires simple courtesies, exercise of tact and diplomacy and professionalism. Other duties may be assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Must be able to work and deal with employees and the public in a professional, courteous and diplomatic manner; as must lead by example.
  2. Responsible for all information desk traffic; learn department organization programs, and policies.
  3. Must be able to perform miscellaneous secretarial and extensive typing duties.
  4. Provide daily, weekly and monthly reports, as needed.
  5. Responsible for opening and closing of facilities, as deemed necessary.
  6. Assist in assigning and coaching sports programs and athletic events.
  7. Audit current equipment and recommend which equipment is needed for the regular season.
  8. Conduct meetings with recreation assistants as needed and ensure that a background check is conducted before working or assisting.
  9. Secure that bids are submitted to our league for regular season uniforms.
  10. Report any concerns, issues and/or protests to Administration as needed, on a timely and proper manner.
  11. Ensure that detailed information is documented and there is always a witness during one-on-one meetings with volunteer coaches.
  12. Maintain open, positive and professional communication with assistants, and parents for Summer Season.
  13. Will assist in moving equipment such as recreation equipment, bleachers etc.
  14. Ensure that proper documentation is provided and filed for all the athletes at registration.
  15. Assist in scheduling of events, and travel to and from each event.
  16. Schedule all contract personnel for adequate coverage of athletic competitions. Attend any meetings relating to programs, sports, special events, and in affiliation with various associations and governing entities.
  17. Provide support when needed in coverage at sports programs, recreation events, and special events as needed whether local or out of town.
  18. Responsible for recruitment and retention of qualified volunteers’ coaches for all sports.
  19. Must use good money handling/safeguarding procedures.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS:
Scoreboards, general office equipment, personal computer, fax, copier and other office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some unusual working hours, irregular hours or shifts, which may involve occasional travel. Will work with little or no hazard to health or body in standard conditions with adequate lighting, heating and ventilation. Must be able to work outside that include heat and cold weather conditions. Physical effort limited to lifting 20-30 lbs; work involves some standing and walking from place to place, with some uneven terrain.

EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Requires a college associates degree with a minimum of three (3) years related experience. Must have sufficient knowledge in the field to perform most normal work as assigned with minimal direct supervision. Must have current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR. Requires excellent grammar, writing, organizational and communication skills. Must also be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, internet and email. Must have the ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and multi-task. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, with a satisfactory driving record. Preferred Qualifications: College degree and bilingual.
