SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Library Director, performs experienced technical support duties at the Roswell Public Library, including responsibility for cataloging and maintaining library materials, assisting special Library programs. This work can include the professional work of routine difficulty in the cataloging of various materials in the Library. Work is performed in accordance with established library procedures with the employee expected to make limited judgement in the interpretation of these procedures based upon precedent. Work requires some pre-employment training and experience. This position involves providing work direction to staff involved with processing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Applies knowledge of library policies and procedures to:

o Create catalog records as well as copy cataloging

o Transfers cataloging records to the Roswell Public Library online catalog.

o Maintains library collection and catalog records.

o Reviews, edits, and updates library catalog.

o Clean and repairs materials.

o Delete records of items, discarded, or designated lost.

o Oversees processing of materials as well as processing materials.

· Submits monthly reports to Supervisor.

· Submits supply requests to Supervisor.

· Assists patrons and responds to requests, using knowledge of library policies and procedures.

· Assists with development, preparation, and presentation of library programs, activities, and special events to meet the informational, educational, and recreational needs of the community.

· Serves as the Roswell Public Library representative on various committees and workgroups.

· Communicates effectively with staff and the public.

· Models excellent customer services practices.

· Assists with library security; checks to assure patrons comply with policies and procedures.

· Contributes to the Management Team by suggesting areas of improvement, innovation and training

· Maintains harmonious, courteous and understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment in the Roswell Public Library.

· May serve as Librarian in charge.

· Applies Roswell Public Library policies and procedures.

· Applies City of Roswell policies and procedures.

· Supports the relationship between the City of Roswell and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

Ÿ Master’s Degree in Library Service from an ALA accredited school OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:

· City policies and procedures.

· Regulations and standards governing public library operations.

· Public library programs, policies, and procedures.

· Cataloging and processing procedures.

· Dewey Decimal System.

· Basic computer functions.

· Basic database administration rules and procedures.

· Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in public facilities.

Skill in:

· Exceptional proofreading ability and typing skills.

· Delivering quality library programs and services to the community.

· Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

· Operating a personal computer and specialized software and equipment (for example, printers, facsimile, telephones, mobile devices, iPad, Kindle).

· Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers and local agencies.

· Effective verbal and written communication.

· Ability to acquire a thorough knowledge of library activities.

· Assisting with the maintenance of library collections.

· Assisting with library programs and policies.

Desirable Special Qualifications:

· Library work experience involving cataloging responsibilities.

· Familiarity with SiriDynix

· Bilingual in English and Spanish

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

A valid New Mexico State Driver’s License is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

· Work is performed in a standard office and public library environment.

· Ability to maintain physical condition and stamina appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting, standing or walking for extended period of time, driving, riding in vehicles.

· The usual requirements require the ability to stand for 4 hours at a time, lift up to 25 pounds, and push a loaded book truck weighing up to 120 pounds.

· Work may require lifting boxes of supplies, equipment and adjustment of furniture.

· Position requires frequent bending, squatting and lifting. The employee may occasionally work in moderately high places.

· Specific hearing abilities required by this job include computer pings, phone rings, and public conversations.

· Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

· Ability to perform duties and adapt to flexible work schedules as established by management, which may include fairly irregular schedules, long hours, weekends and evenings. May be called when needed.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be able to pass a rigid background investigation including work history, criminal records, driving records and other records deemed necessary.

· Pre-employment drug screen administered by city designated facility.
