City of Roanoke, Virginia is Hiring a Facilities Trades Worker- General (Municipal) Near Courtland, VA

The City of Roanoke is seeking a Facilities Trades worker to serve in the Facilities Divison of General Services. This department is looking for the right applicant who possesses any assortment of the following skills.
Trade Description
Mechanical Division
May include the following depending on area of assignment

Assist licensed plumber/s in repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing commercial plumbing systems including HVAC piping systems, rainwater recovery, swimming pools (cleaning & maintenance) and decorative fountains (maintenance). Performs unskilled manual work in the completion of plumbing projects. Assist a Journeyman/Master electrician to repair, maintain high voltage systems, install various electrical systems. Operate a variety of electrical testing devices/equipment to locate and determine what types of electrical malfunction. Maintain, and install wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting, appliances, circuits, wiring, and other duties may be assigned. Operates and maintains various types of hand and small power tools. Must be able to climb/work on ladders/lifts to reach high ceilings or walls. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Minimum of 6 months related experience and/or education in plumbing/electrical. Required to wear some type of respiratory protection in the performance of their duties. Pulmonary test will be provided by the city.

Structural Division
Perform preventative maintenance and assist a skilled carpenter (worker), resurfacing of concrete walkways (floor polishing) in city buildings, maintenance of facilities equipment, basic carpentry, wood and metal stud framing, removal/installation of ceiling systems, carpet, VCT tile, ceramic tile, wallboard, wall trim, doors, windows, concrete, brick/block laying, sandblasting, chipping and painting of structures and other duties may be assigned. High school diploma or general education degree (GED.

Welding Division 
Will be required to help fabricate metal objects which may involve, lay out (fitter), cutting, measuring and help welder to weld metals to create the desired shape or object. Knowledgeable of many techniques and tools. Assists with special events, snow removal and other emergency tasks, including some nights and weekends, as needed. Assist with grappling equipment to objects preparatory to movement by crane. Help align, level, and anchor machinery. Help attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools. Help attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps. Help control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment. Help dismantle and store rigging equipment after use. Adheres to established safety procedures. Must be able to climb/work on ladders/lifts to reach high ceilings or walls. Other duties may be assigned. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

HVAC Division 
Assist licensed HVAC Technician/s in repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing all types of commercial HVAC systems and required to maintain ice machines. Must be able to climb/work on ladders/lifts to reach high ceilings or walls. Required to perform preventative maintenance on all types of HVAC mechanical equipment. May also help to perform essential duties in mechanical, structural, HVAC or welding. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
