City of Republic is Hiring an Engineering Intern Near Republic, MO

*Typical starting pay will be at the beginning of the pay range advertised, depending on qualifications.*
Primary Purpose
Performs engineering duties for the purpose of design, maintenance, and construction of public infrastructure. Will have various opportunities to observe and in some cases possibly assist with tasks related to infrastructure, GIS, right-of-way, surveying, etc.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, and general daily oversight of the Engineers or as assigned.
  1. Develops, reads, and interprets construction plans, sketches, maps, surveys, legal descriptions, and engineering reports.
  2. Performs work as assigned for engineering projects such as capital improvement programs; street, storm drainage, and sewer construction; construction and engineering studies; wastewater management; and intersection design and traffic control, and/or improvement programs.
  3. Assists in the review of construction drawings and technical specifications for conformance to published design and technical standards.
  4. Assists in the preparation of infographics and reports.
  5. Retrieves and compiles asset management information using GIS software and electronic databases. Assists field divisions with collecting asset data.
  6. Assists in construction, building and municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) inspections; field staking with the City’s survey team; marking of stormwater infrastructure as required by the systems MS4 permit, etc.
  7. Deals effectively and courteously with all fellow staff and the public.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Important Duties

  1. Attends meetings and training sessions as deemed appropriate by supervisor or department head.
  2. Maintains confidentiality as required.

Education & Experience

Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university, pursuing an engineering degree, with an overall GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.0.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge in Civil Engineering for Public Infrastructure; Knowledge of construction practices and techniques relating to streets, storm sewers, water systems and sanitary sewers; Must be able to perform work functions following prescribed safety procedures; Must be able to effectively communicate through written and verbal skills.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver's License.

Miscellaneous Requirements

May be subject to random substance abuse testing.

Physical Demands

Performs bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching to ground level and overhead; Must be able to push and pull up to 40 pounds and be able to lift the items above head; Must be able to hold and grip objects. Must be able to push, pull and carry 80 pounds.

Work Environment

May be exposed to extreme weather, dust or pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical or mechanical hazards and extreme noise; May work with poor ventilation and no natural lighting; May work in confined placed and awkward positions.
